Emilie is unfortunate that she has been denied a main draw place by Natalia Szabanin reaching the final in Manacor and claiming a SE here.

You will recall that Emilie had two successful weeks here last November when she reached the SF and F from qualifying in consecutive weeks. This is her first event since retiring from Funchal in the week following those events. There was speculation that the retirement may have just been an accumulation of too many matches, but given the time she's not played it seems it was more than that.

I seem to recall her posting about an ankle injury.

She was right down the bottom of the alt list - but then Em is always up for another match and she is an early riser - she was on court before 8am ! She's taken the place of the #2 seed

That's some milestone!

Peter I let Emily know you'd posted that stat on here and she was both grateful, amused, surprised and made to feel old biggrin

That is just singless though - the ITF say 878 doubles as well !

Emily has just been on the receiving end of a diabolical call at 5-4 30-40* - ball landed in the corner, several inches inside both lines, called out. I'm usually ok with giving umpires a bit of benefit of the doubt when there is no line judge and the calls are on the close side. But the ball landed with acres of space all around it.

*5-5
