Boys & Girls: J100 Loughborough, GB - hard (Week 10)

A slightly disappointing turnout in qualis

The boys has a normal three-round quali draw - but with nine byes

The girls only has a two-round draw

However, it all kicks off today

In the boys, the top four quali seeds are: Enrico Franchi, Conor Brady, Nanda (IND), Kai-Luca Ampaw

In the girls, the top four quali seeds are: Georgiana Mititelu, Ophelia K Davies, Heidi Crncan, Solovei (AUS)

Thanks, Daisycat - I don't really follow the national level
Yes, U18 would certainly have an impact on J100 level

And the qualifiers in the girls are the top 4 seeds, namely:

Georgiana Mititelu, Ophelia K Davies, Heidi Crncan, Solovei (AUS)

In the boys, the Indian third seed lost so the qualifers are the other top 4 seeds and Alex:

Enrico Franchi, Conor Brady, Alex Winder, Kai-Luca Ampaw

The MD is out and the top seeds and wildcards are as follows:

Boys:

Top seeds: Kucera (CZE), Max Carrier, Luke Hooper, Sklenicka (CZE)

Wildcards: Mark Ceban, Jesse Clarkson, Rhys Lawlor, Louis Hull

MATHIAS Lescano-Vecchi is also in as a LL

Girls:

Top seeds: Hannah Read, Marelie Raath, Daniela Piani, Barthel (GER)

Wildcards: Edie Griffiths (2009), Mia Wainwright (2007), Rosie Cho (2010), Alice Wilson-Marsh ('08)

Unfortunately, Mia and Edie have drawn the top two seeds

Nice to see Hollie Smart back too

Boys

Not a great day - a lot of GB lads fell at the first hurdle

Well done, however, to (q) Kai-Luca Ampaw who put out the 5th seed

Only 6 British boys through to the last 16

Girls

Not the best either for the girls, although better than the boys

Well done to Mia Wainwright who beat top seed, Hannah Read

And Isabella Wong who beat the 8th seed

9 British girls left in the last 16

(q) Heidi Crncan has just beaten 2nd seed, Marelie Raath

Which doesn't surprise me much

Marelie is not on a great run at the moment - she lost to Celine Ricaud last week - and Heidi is a tall girl, who gets some real acceleration on the ball - a lesser well-known name which I follow as a possible surprise for later years

Mia Wainwright is also through to the QFs

(other results not in yet)

In the boys, Mark Ceban, Max Carrier and Luke Hooper have also won

Kai-Luca has won his match too, so we have 4 boys in the last 8 - which is a lot better than 6 in the last 16

In the girls, Tegan and Isabella Wong and Hollie lost

But wins for Erin and Dani P give us 4 girls in the last 8 - and counting because Ruby's result is not in yet

Heidi doesn't play that much, but is tall and has a huge serve and when she gets it all together, she is a danger to most at this level. I think she trains with George Coupland at Edgbaston.

Yes, I started following Heidi last year, having seen her play once and thought she had some interesting qualities

She was rather skinny for her height, but will put on a little muscle as she gets older

Great acceleration - those balls have weight on them

It's getting better and better

In the boys, Mark Ceban put out the top seed

And Max and Luke won too

So the SFs are:

Mark v Luke

Max v Czech boy

Not looking so promising now in the girls

Both Mia and Ruby lost

The results of the other two matches still to come

Well done those boys, especially Mark for putting out the top seed. He seems to be progressing nicely!

Shame for the girls. We'll have one definite because of an all-GB tie but good luck for Heidi against the number six seed.

Unfortunately Heidi lost 7-6(4) 6-2

But Dani P beat Erin

So we have our one guaranteed semi-finalist

And we have an all-GB final for the boys

FINAL: Luke Hooper v Max Carrier

Max is set for a rise in the rankings as he is also in the semi final of the doubles.
