Week 9 - ITF M15 - Nakhon Si Thammarat, Thailand (hard)

QR1:  (qWC) Suphawat Saeoui (THA) UNR vs (q15) Mattias Southcombe WR 1364 (CH = 1337 last November)

Don't think I've ever seen a surname consisting of a single consonant & five consecutive vowels before!  no

You would have thought that they could get the vowels in order!

Indeed.  smile  There's an even better one, in a different kind of way, on the Alternates list for the Kish Island (the iranians ust banish thm there to prevent their contaminating the general population!) M15, a Hong Konger who rejoices in the name of Wan Him Donovan Yim.  wink

And Matt manages to get the win over his vowel-blessed opponent, 14-12, in the MTB

NB How do you think Matt pronounces his surname?

I can do the South bit

But is the end 'Com' or 'Comb' or 'Coom' ?

QR1:  (q15) Mattias Southcombe WR 1364 defeated (qWC) Suphawat Saeoui (THA) UNR by 6-7(4) 6-4 [14-12]

*****

FQR:  (q2) Leo Vithoontien (JAP) WR 881 (CH = 874 last November) vs (q15) Mattias Southcombe WR 1364

Re the pronunciation of Matt's surname, I'd hazard a guess (& it's no more than that) that it rhymes with Boscombe in Bournemouth the phonetic spelling of which features a "k", an upside down "e" & an "m", so more like "erm" without the "r" lengthening the "e" sound (I can't reproduce it here because Activeboard won't support the characters).  That's how I "hear" it in my head anyway.

Tx, SC - that's what I was thinking too, more like the first option I'd put (though I don't do phoenetics) but I like the Bournemouth helper

Unfortunately Mr. Sounds-like-Boscombe lost 0 & 0
