Week 9 - ATP 500 - Abierto Mexicano Telcel - Acapulco, Mexico (hard)

I always feel that Liam is unlucky with the timing of his Injuries. They always seem to come at a time where he has got some momentum and normally managed to have a good run at a 250 or something. Start of this year loses a close one with Rublev I round 2 in Hong Kong, injury. Back in 2022 makes the QF in Tel Aviv, injury, think he had a few other 250s lined up after that. Liams injuries always seem to come when he is in form really stumps the momentum.

Dang; fear Liam slipping down the rankings again. Has he lost some of his motivation? Hope not. Felt like cracking the top 100 was a thing and hes not been able with injuries or form to maintain the level

Not aimed at you particularly Jon but Ive noticed this message board seems to be quite quick to question players if theyve had a couple of losses and look at whether theyre going to retire, lost their mojo, will never make/maintain the level etc, etc. Katie B, Jodie, Hev, Emma and now Liam all recently. It seems normal to me that it takes a while to get back to the level after injury because of reaching peak fitness, being match fit, adjusting back to the mental side of playing and travelling. It seems very early in his come back to question his motivation.

Katie B took a while to get back to her best after injury and has now reached a big career high. Jack D isnt quite at the level he was before recent injuries but I think he will do. Paul Jubb hasnt got completely back into his groove yet but hes climbing back up. I guess its something to talk about but it seems a bit negative but maybe thats just me!

Maybe, and I probably am quick to react, so apologies - guilty as charged. With Liam, though, it feels like he has been off his best for a little while now, injuries clearly play a part in that.

Re the others, certainly I did have a go at Jodie and maybe questioned Paul's likely top level (although I agree he is getting back up there and I really hope he does it). Jack D I am cool with - he will break top 20 this season, IMO.

The other women, I dont really have a view on - Katie B doing well for me, Heather is Heather and doing well right now, Emma - my jury will remain out as I really dont know what to make of her generally, other than she needs to change her scheduling, as discussed!!

But your point is certainly fair, overall, and I can be guilty of that!

Sorry Jon not just aimed at you. I maybe a bit happy clappy, lol!

Haha, no worries. I think that TA's prediction game shows/summarises how, as a community, we are all generally optimistic on British prospects - of the 30 or entered in each event, maybe 1 or 2 predicted a general reduction in rankings, 99% of us when for improvements - so I guess we are all happy clappy to some extent!!

Joe apparently has some kind of stomach issue (the Aztec two-step/Montezuma's revenge?).  cry   Hope it's nothing too serious.

And Dan then goes 40-0 up on Shelton's serve, and no messing, breaks to love.

*6-5

Darn     Nip and tuck TB but some big first serves helped sway it for Shelton.

Pity after saving these 3 MPs and then breaking and serving for it.

Missed the fun, glad to see Jack get revenge for the AO loss, great win.

Real shame Evo got pipped, glad he played well, hope he can get some luck in the us events.

Shame for Dan in such a tight match but good work by Jack. That's a very solid victory.

Such a shame for Dan - but everyone's got to be a fan of Ben Shelton's tennis, surely, so pleased it was him

Way to go, Jack ! (Don't like Tommy Paul's tennis, so that's good too )

And, not sure it's on here so at the risk of repeat, Neal got a win too

L16: (1) Santiago González (MEX) & Neal Skupski CR 17 (9+8) def. Willam Blumberg & Casper Ruud (USA/NOR) CR 660 (87+573) 6-3 6-2
