It's always irritating to draw the top seed but, honestly, Nina has barely won a match in the last 6 months

She probably should be ranked about 700 at best, if you look at her results sheet

Allez, Talia

I knew she could do it biggrin

Partly an endorsement of Talia

and partly because Nina has really been in a mega slump

When the two come together, it's a slamdunk smile

Well done Talia. Did not start well. I believe that she was 0-3 down but then she rallied and showed that she had not forgotten how to play biggrin

Even at 0,-3 down, though, she'd had break points
The score seemed pretty close

Manon is a very interesting case, and an example of the French tennis system in action.

She was a promising young player, reached 268 as the addict noted above. But couldn't quite get up any further.

And so she decided to step back from ITF and WTA and just play money tournaments in France (on the CNGT - which is the circuit for big money events)

So last year, for instance, she only played one ITF event (which has a special place in her heart, she says), not because she was injured but because she was focusing just on domestic events

She was playing about 2 - 3 money tournaments a month and, in her words, it earned her enough to get by, with far lower costs (trains are cheap, she says - which is true - and the event puts you up), and also with a far nicer, friendlier atmosphere because you're not travelling around the world, on your own, feeling stressed, in a very adversarial, often rather nasty, situation, she says

She's still playing the CNGT - but this little trip to Monastir is her first event outside of France for nearly 2 years, and might be signs that she's enjoying her 'second wind', as she says, and is looking to extend again
