It's interesting that the WTA and ATP differ in this regard. The WTA offer first round loser points for all events at W50 and above, and wild cards still receive points. The ATP only offer first round loser points at the Slams and M1000 events, and wild cards don't receive points.

However even if Raducanu gets 10 points for a first round loss as a wild card, it's not going to make a huge difference unless she is winning matches.

It depends where you are in the rankings IMO. She will move up from where she is. Not a jot of difference when you are 150 plus.

Yes Raducanu moves up from 262 to 250, but not a huge impact. Agree if you are far lower ranked, it can make a difference.

So she has 301 points according to live rankings.  The current #200 has 378 points and #100 has 761 points, so the odd 10 point here and there isn't really going to make any difference

Rather by the way, but I just happened to see the coin toss at the net before the Swiatek vs Azaranka match.

Geezo, I'd not particularly noticed before but that's a pretty aggressive workout Iga does at the net, bouncing around then a lot of mighty forehand and backhand airshots directed across the net towards Vika a few feet away. I would need a lie down after that

Pretty worrying if professional athletes need a strenuous work out for a coin toss! Was it a heavy coin?

This was only Emma's fourth tournament after nine months out, inconsistent results are frustrating but hardly surprising after such a long layoff. The more she plays the better her form will become. I suspect she might get a WC for Austin after pulling out last year with tonsilitis.

But therein lies the issue. She needs to drop down a couple of levels in my opinion. She's not going to get many matches travelling around the world from one wild card to the next at the more prestigious tournaments where her ranking means she's likely to end playing and probably losing against top players.

She needs matches if she really wants to get back to even top 100.  Look at Heather and Harriet, both have been big enough to admit they needed to play lower grade tournaments and both are winning matches.

Of course whether her agents or even sponsors will countenance such an approach is something we're not likely to find out for a long time if ever.

Whilst you can see her play is inconsistent there are also aspects that just don't look that good. I'm especially thinking of her serve which is not only poor at times but seems to have lost a few MPH from where it used to be. Maybe I'm imagining this but I wonder if she's protecting her body a bit right now in this aspect.
