Week 7 - WTA 1000 - Doha, Qatar Hard

R1: RADUCANU, Emma (GBR) 262 (CH=10 2022) v KALININA, Anhelina (UKR) 30 (CH=25 2023)

They met in Madrid in 2022 with Angelina winning in three.

The system forgot who I am and refused to respond to all attempts to recover so I gave up and registered under another name

Peter too

If Emma can just get a first round win it shows the progress upwards she is making.
Personally I would still love to see her drop down right now to say an itf 100k and have a really good week.

I would say so. Kalinina's high ranking is based on reaching the final in Rome. Since then she has not won more than 2 matches in  a row.

Anyone know why Katie Boulter chose to miss?

 I sort of agree.

Emma needs to get match fit and play competitively across a whole week.

Winning the odd match at WTA 500/1000 is fine, but needs to mix it up with tournaments where she can go deep

i.e a weak 250k or 125K

Ah the idea of a good draw! A good draw is a good draw for the winner and that's it. If players thought 'this is a good (or bad) draw' it would do them no good at all.

0-6 first set. Will it be one of those topsy turvy wta scores or not?
