In the 2nd set Katie came back from a break down to serve it out to love.

R1:-Katie Swan (GBR) WR309 defeated Xiaodi You (CHN) WR226 [7]
6-2 6-4

She next faces 18 year old qualifier Melisa Ercan, who knocked Lily out of Australian Open qualifying as a qWC.

Well done, Katie

Ercan is the Turkish youngster who's switched to Australia who was being discussed in the Aussie Open threads

Katie won her doubles match too. The best news is that shes fit enough to play twice in one day without having to retire injured. I think thats a good reason to be optimistic.

She's been playing Singles and Doubles frequently recently which must mean that she feels pretty good right now.  Maybe not getting the results yet but they will come.

Two good wins for Swan, it seems the confidence is returning. It makes a big difference being able to play freely and enjoy the competitive challenge.

Katie lost 3 & 5. She was serving for the 2nd set at 5-3 and then lost four games in a row. Ito is strange, she doesn't seem to put any effort in, she seems to wave her racket at the ball and somehow it goes back. I don't know what she was doing to the ball but Katie made what looked like a lot of unforced errors.

I suppose it was inevitable, but Katie and Jamie retired from the doubles after just 20 minutes in the doubles, trailing 1-4.
So perhaps Katie had a niggle towards the end of her singles ?
