I'm not sure there should be too much disappointment in Lily's loss. Its tricky to know where Romero Gormaz's true ranking is. She has a career high of 156 from April last year after winning 4 W25s in 2022. Her ranking has slipped as she struggled to make the step up last year and then was out of form losing to lower ranked players last summer. She has struggled to get wins against top 200 players with only 7 wins to her name. She did, however, bagel Cornet and Dodin last year for her only career top 100 wins. So perhaps it's fair to say that Lily and Romero Gormaz are fairly evenly matched despite their difference in rankings and the scoreline reflected that?
Lily played a final on Sunday (two long 3 setters back to back in SF and F) and played again this tuesday and wednesday (both long 3 setters) in a different country. I think a break was needed.
