Emma is playing well, but Ons looks every bit a top ten player today. Serve is good (although not that high a percentage) and hitting winners at will.

Though what level of Ons will we see here?

Let's hope Emma at least gets to play her anyway.

 Absolutely

I'd have been better pleased if Emma had gotten Ons in R1 ....

This looking like it may not have helped if she had Ons in R1 now.

Ons won 5 & 1, too good today. She served 8 aces including three in one game. Still, it provided useful practice for Emma against a top player which she can carry into her next match. 160 points collected so far from 3 tournaments, continue at that rate and she should be top 100 again before long.

Heather's smile is still one of the best things in tennis. That's a great win.

Agreed, I always find myself smiling back

I thought Emma lacked a bit of pace on serve, but Ons was on her game. Serve was huge, hitting winners for fun and that slice was so effective.

Yes a bit lacklustre looking towards the end.

Distinct lack of pop on her serve at the moment and comparatively poor first serve stats. It has looked much more potent in the past

At her best still looking on the way again but that second set was rather disappointing.

Not the result we were looking for, but this tournament still feels like good progress on the comeback trail. Ons was clearly playing well, and since many of us thought Emma might really struggle at this level and would be better starting off with WTA250s or lower, I think we can be reasonably happy with this.

There will still be top 20 players in a WTA250, so luck of the draw. It was a good test of where she's at on her comeback and looks good for the US swing.

Yes, maybe I was also a little guilty of getting a bit ahead of myself.

The top seeds no less. Quite the week for our Hev.

The 2nd time Heather has beaten the top seeds in doubles this year after her and Greet Mineen beat eventual AO champions Hsieh & Mertens in Brisbane.
