Emma was playing on or inside the baseline.
Marie was ending up 2ft behind the baseline.
That was the big difference and Emma out hit and dominated her opponent.
Great result! Really good to see Emma trusts her body enough post-surgery to still play at this level, and is quickly shaking off the rust from not having played much.
I haven't seen the highlights, but looking on tennis forums, they said that both players didn't play well, but Emma played better. Don't know what people who saw the match think?

Lots of breaks at the beginning. Emmas forehand wasnt great, and she was making errors as she was forcing the play - but she had the far bigger game, and looked better and better as the match went on. She performed like a rusty top player who was finding their way through a first round its probably the kind of performance that we would have expected of her without the injury setbacks. There seemed to be a lot more trust in the groundstrokes
From the first few matches Ive seen this year I would say her biggest improvement is her ROS
It's good to see the aggressive intent. In her US Open triumph she was pretty aggressive, particularly in her court position for second serves. It's good to see such intent coming back more into her game again.

Oh good. Hopefully her injuries will be behind her, and it will be onwards and upwards from here.
