February 2024 Player of the Month Nominations Thread

I see Hep is being considered in other parts of the board and Julian has just won a first ATP250 title, which feels like a big achievement to me!!

Here you go, Jon.biggrin

I do feel like I've become a bit of a cheerleader for Julian and have nominated him a lot! And I'm waiting on an answer from CD before nominating Hep.

EDIT: Question answered, so I've added Hep!

1 - Jodie Burrage for reaching the quarter finals of the WTA500 in Linz from qualifying, including getting through some tough moments with composure.

2 - Felix Gill for reaching the semi final of an ATP Challenger 75 - on clay - beating 2 seeds & other higher ranked players on the way

3 - Lily Miyazaki for winning the tournament at Andrezieux-Boutheon; some great wins, including beating the top seed in the SF.

4 - Heather Watson for a timely reminder that she can still mix it with the top players. At the Abu Dhabi WTA 500, she reached the final in the doubles (with Linda Noskova), resulting in her rocketing up the doubles rankings. In singles at the same event, she came through qualifying and then won her first round match against the world number 16. She followed this up in the week after by reaching the final of the singles at the Roehampton W50, which will take her singles ranking up to around 125.

5 - Harriet Dart for coming through qualifying and making the semi-final of a 250K event for the first time, beating WR 56 on the way. Also for making the final in doubles.

6 - Mark Ceban - age 14 - won the single title at the J60 Tunisia. This will boost him to about JWR 350, and take him to third best player in the world for his age

7 - Great Britain 12U girls team crowned Tennis Europe Winter Cup champions

8 - Charlie Robertson - for getting his first ever rankings point s and for doing it in style in the Glasgow Challenger, coming through qualies and then taking out a Top 500 player in the 1st Round MD.

9. Emile Hudd - won the ITF doubles event in Egypt with David Stevenson, reaching the singles QF stage as well; followed up with a SF singles and final of the doubles (with David) in week commencing 12th Feb, to make a really strong month

10. Paul Jubb for coming through qualifying and making the final of the Challenger 50 event in Glasgow. This is the first Challenger final he has reached since returning from injury last summer.

11. Julian Cash for winning the doubles at the ATP250 in Delray Beach with Robert Galloway, defeating the much higher ranked number 1 seeds in the final. This is Julian's first title at this level and will give him a new career high.

12. Hephzibah Oluwadare (born 31 Oct 2007) for achieving her first WTA singles ranking (1189) after picking up a point at the Roehampton W50. This follows on from winning a J200 in Germany earlier in the month.

And I see Charlie Robertson's narrative needs updating as he not only has a point but, like Hep, enough points for an adult singles ranking. (Bob nominated Charlie, so maybe he wants to do the honours...?)

I think in the ATP, dont the players get a ranking alongside their first point ie there is no min counters or thresholds like the WTA - I dont pretend to follow that detail so someone will no doubt correct/clarify that!

You are right JonH. We have 8 players with rankings who only have one point. The rankings vary from 1680 to 1972 depending on how many tournaments they have played.

Thanks, TA! I thought it worked in a similar way to the women (or was certainly more complicated than it is).smile

I'll update Charlie's narrative.

13. Greg Slade - Britain's #2 ranked Quad wheelchair player, unseeded he won the Bolton Indoor ITF Series 3 event, beating World ranked #10, top seeded Brazilian, Silva, in the final. Good to shout at a British player that isn't one of the more well known names of wheelchair tennis

With just over a week left, DF has summarised the Friday feeling status

britishtennis.activeboard.com/t66034135/who-has-that-friday-feeling/

Im keeping a close eye on whether 21 or more is likely to be a thing this month, it feels touch and go! I might need to keep my AI group generation algorithm close to hand!

The only one of our current list of nominees still playing this Friday is Emile, the other Friday feeling players would all be new to the list, so it could easily grow. Lets see how the weekend goes, but maybe (hopefully!) Ill need to get out the slide rule!
