Singles draw still not up on the ATP site (shows only Rune as 1/WC vs a BYE), but, according to Wiki:

L32: (5) Andy Murray WR 44 (CH = 1 in November 2016) vs Benoît Paire (FRA) WR 115 (CH = 16 in January 2016)

Mayot or Pouille (both WCs) in the last 16 (if he wins), then Marterer/Cazaux or FAA (3) in the QF. The second seed is Bublik.

Andy 1 set all won first 6-2 lost second 6-7 1-2 down on third Paire either brilliant or making poor errors Andys standard not grat to be honest looks miles off his best .Hope he wins its on Sky 408 if anybody wants to watch it.

It's just not happening for Andy. Sad to see him with defeats like this.
It really doesn't feel like things will get any better for him.

I decided not to follow as, to be honest, I knew it would be painful, despite thinking he had a good draw.

I dont see where this is going now and, for Andy, why he would want to prolong it beyond getting to the end of the slams.

I think time has caught up with Andy little pace in some of the rallies with Paire who himself was totally inconsistent. I gave up watching during third set. I don't see at this point any sign of Andy winning challenger matches indeed I can see him sliding down the rankings.

It's my fault. For the past 3 years I left him out of my top 10 assuming he was going to retire and now that I put him in it...

Paire has always lost to Andy in previous meetings. In recent times Paire has been playing challenger matches and has not won a match on the main ATP tour since August 2022.
