Heather currently wont make Olympics, you have to have qualified in either singles or doubles to be considered for the mixed.

It is unlikely. As I read it, it would need Heather to climb higher in the rankings to get within the top 32 eligible players (I haven't worked out what ranking that would mean as there are restrictions on numbers of players from each country). If she gets the ranking she can play with Katie as Katie's singles ranking would then count (as being inside the top 300, singles or doubles).

Olympic site gives the qualification rules here

Also available slightly simplified on Wiki

Yeah, I thought Katies singles rank might count. I guess Heather needs to rise a bit which she might do but , yeah, unlikely

It's not the top 32 eligible players. It's a draw of 32 pairs based on combined singles or doubles ranking. Katie and Heather have a current combined ranking of 115.

The initial cut-off for Tokyo was around 93, after which they used pairs with at least one singles player as the quota of players had been reached. Katie and Heather would have made the Tokyo cut but there were a lot of late withdrawals that lowered the cut-off.

There are also guaranteed spots for Top 10 doubles players with their partner. And of course no more than 4 singles players, 2 doubles pairs, and 6 players in total. Complicated, much?

It's the LTA that determines who to nominate for doubles

In determining the provisional list of two doubles teams, the LTA Selection Panel shall utilise its sole
discretion and expert knowledge to determine which players create the two doubles teams that offer
the greatest medal potential and/or prospect of acceptance into the relevant events at the Games to
maximise representation across all tennis events, considering the following factors when making their
decision (in no particular order)
Recent results, results on clay, regular partner, complementary playing style, doubles ranking, singles ranking, commitment and conduct, fitness

The LTA selection panel for Olympics selection is Iain Bates, Leon Smith, Anne Keothavong, Michael Bourne

The LTA Olympics selection policy is https://www.lta.org.uk/49f0b0/siteassets/compete/pro-players/tennis-olympics-2024-selection-policy_.pdf#mce_temp_url#

Thanks Lambda. If Evans, Draper, Norrie and Murray all got in, there would only be room for two doubles specialists.
