Leander Paes, Mahesh Bhupathi? Pretty sure they both made it to number 1

 They both did, yes

COMPLETELY forgot those two even existed! oops. Of course.

Anyway, Bopanna won overnight and makes top spot.

Well done to him. Seems a nice fella, and still remember his good sportsmanship in us open final. Hope he wins his first slam.

Does seem always a bit awkward to be number one and not have a slam to your name. Hoping he wins the title also; the other pairs left include Bolelli and Vavassori,  and Koepfer and Hanfmann, and Machac and Zhang. Dont think anyone would have predicted that set of pairs in the last 4.

The most random set of semifinalists ever. This is Machac and Zheng's first event, while Koepfer and Hanfmann played only 3 events back in 2021. I used to think that the longer scoring format at Slams would suit more experienced pairs where it is less of a croap shoot, but actually I think it allows pairs to play themselves into a match. Am not sure this event proves anything.

Ironically Storm Hunter, who tops the women's doubles rankings, also hasn't won a Slam, but like Bopanna has reached the semifinals.

If Bopanna wins tonight, he will be world number one next week, first time in his career and aged around 43, I believe.

Delightful article about Bops's resurgence by Stu Fraser in today's Times.  He attributes it largely to having taken up yoga during the pandemic.

Remarkably, Hanfmann has won only two doubles matches in the last year, both at challenger level.

Bopanna and Ebden won through to the final in a MTB win. And they are joined by the Italian pair, Bolelli and Vavassori who also won a MTB victory !

Bolelli won the AO doubles title back in 2015, partnering Fognini, so has some pedigree, Vavassori has won 3 ATP 250 doubles titles in the past few years.

Bops & Ebden triumph in straight sets (7-6(0) 7-5).  smile
