Weeks 3 & 4 - Australian Open - Melbourne, VIC, Australia (hard) - main draw

Cam plays Italian qualifier, Zeppieri, next - feels like one that Cam should expect to win.

Nice wins there! Appears fairly straightforward for Cam and hopefully his wrist held up. Oh Jack! Well fought! Hope he can recover before the next match.

First set Evo, 6-4. I expect Dan to win but actually think a win for him would be a great result after his injury time off. Anything a bonus at this stage, hope IW and Miami are where he can make a dent!

Jacks win takes him live top 50, for now at least.

Ugh a shocker of a second set tiebreak for Evans. Led 4-0 and 5-3, but lost it 10-8.

Lost the 3rd set in 35 minutes, hope he can regroup. For anyone watching - how are they both playing?

I'm not watching, but am monitoring the score.  I don't get a good feeling at all.  Dan was (is again)  bp down at 4-4 in the 4th.

Dan has just saved umpteem break points - with the way Sonego has been serving, they were almost match points.
But Dan has held for 5-4*

From rhe Beeb's live text commentary at *5-5 in the fourth set:

Evans is still grumbling and mumbling about the crowd. The Australian Open have decided this year that fans can come in and out of stadiums after an even number of games instead of just at the usual change of ends.

It is causing a few issues here as everyone tries to pile in to watch this corker!

Just good to have Evo back playing at the moment. After his layoff, asking him to play a 5-setter in the heat was probably asking a bit too much. Once he had lost that TB in the 2nd, it was always going to be a struggle. But his fitness and form will improve over the next few weeks.

Shame but not disappointed- its only Dans third match back I think. So long as he is fit, train and build now for the events in Dubai, IW, Miami etc

Considering his injuries and previous struggles with the heat, that's a significant win for Jack. Let's just hope he can recover in time for round 2.
