Congrats to Gordon Reid who went to outright World Doubles number one in yesterdays rankings release. It threw me at first as I though he and Alfie had identical records, but Gordon has 1 more event and 4 more points to his name; it appears he played the World Team Cup earlier this year and partnered Dahnon Ward in the doubles matches they played (as they won their singles, Alfie rested from doubles) and as such Gordon accrued a few points which have taken him to top spot.
Andrew Penney went down in straight sets today and our interest in the singles in France is over.
Although the event has doubles interest and needs to play through to a final, our attention can shift to the NEC Wheelchair Singles Masters and Uniqlo Wheelchair Doubles Masters ( I am not at all sure why they have separate sponsors and yet are played together at the same venue and time as a cojoined event).
Anyway, that starts on 11th Nov and draws should be up at the back end of this week
In the mens doubles, Andrew and Dahnon almost pulled off a massive shock, taking the top seeded Dutch pair to an 11-9 MTB - Egberink and Sheffers are also seeded 2 in next weeks Masters, so a top pair.
Lucy and Greg remain in their doubles respectively
In one of the few minor events being played, a Turkish Futures, Ben Bartram has done well and reached the final (unseeded) where he plays a Chinese opponent tomorrow. He beat the worlds 27, 23 and 47 so far, Ben himself is ranked 26, so a decent push through. His final opponent, Ji, is ranked 24 so it should be a tight final.
