2024 ITF Wheelchair Tour

And sadly Andy went down in his final in straight sets.

So wheelchair event over but the show moves on to Nice in France and the Super Series French Riviera Open , played at Morautogalous academy down there. Kicks off mid week.

Congrats again to Alfie and Gordon, and Ruben also.

And the BBC, pointing out theyve now won 20 slam doubles titles, 5 at each of the 4 slams

For Alfie, Wimbledon singles and a Paralympic gold from singles or doubles will be the aim now and icing on the cake

The French Riviera Open starts tomorrow although I havent seen any draws posted.

The event website says:

The 8th French Riviera Open will start tomorrow, Tuesday, June 11, 2024, at the Mouratoglou Academy.
An intense competition, with some of the worlds best players in all three categories.

Alfie Hewett (world No. 1, GBR), Tokito Oda (world No. 2, JAP, winner of Roland-Garros 2024) and Gustavo Fernandez (world No. 3, ARG, reigning FRO champion) will headline the mens draw, which will also feature Frances Stéphane Houdet, Frédéric Cattanéo, Guilhem Laget, Geoffrey Jasiak and Gaëtan Mainguy, as well as local player Laurent Giammartini (WC).

Diede De Groot (world no. 1, NED), winner of another French Open and defending champion of the French Riviera Open, will be hard to dethrone. Still, Yui Kamiji (no. 2, JAP) and Zhenzhen Zhu (no. 5, CHN), a finalist at Roland Garros, will be in ambush. On the French side, Pauline Déroulède, Ksenia Chasteau, Emmanuelle Mörch and Charlotte Fairbank will be playing for Paralympic qualification, while Zoé Maras completes the field.

In the Quads, Niels Vink (world no. 1, NED) will be looking to retain his FRO23 crown and avenge last weeks defeat by Guy Sasson (no. 3, ISR), a recent winner at Roland-Garros. Justin Michel will be carrying Frances hopes for the first time at this level of the competition.

Watch the tournament live scoring and live streaming.
The finals will be broadcast live on Canal + Sport on Saturday, 15, and Sunday, June 16.

The action has started in Nice:

Men's singles -

Alfie plays Laget from France in the last 32

Gordon plays an Italian, Arca

Dahnon Ward plays a French man, Charrier

But the big news was Ben Bartram upsetting WR 10 , Japanese Sanada, 4 and 4 for what will be a career best win for Ben, well done to him! He plays de la Puente, the 4th seeded Spaniard next, though.

Men's doubles -

No Alfie and Gordon here, Ben and Dahnon are the only British entry

Women's singles and doubles - no GB entries

Quad singles -

Andy Lapthorne has a bye and is seeded 4th - he plays American Bogdanov in the last 16

Greg Slade beat his German opponent, Laudan, in Round one and plays Kaplan from Turkey, seeded 6th, next

Quad doubles -

Andy plays with Vink, from the NL and they are seeded 1 and get a bye to the last 8

Greg plays with Slovakian, Masaryk and they play the Laudan brothers from Germany in round one

All here, looks like an extra round in singles so that is where most of the increase is.

 Thanks!

If Alfie for example repeated his French results, hed earn £48k from this, £80k for winning both. Nice if he can do that!

Alfie and Gordon both move into semis and Andy into quad doubles final, well done all.

Gordon beat French runner up, Gustavo Fernandez for an excellent win and plays Japanese French Open winner, Oda, next.
