Having seen how this year went, my votes etc next year will focus on:
Player of the month and season - they are the bedrock
The grand slam British wins prediction events - for the 4 slams. I enjoy those
The favourite British player vote in Feb
Im going to drop the grass court wins competition and prediction I do through the grass season - takes too much time in one go, although anyone else who wishes to is welcome to run that next June/july, Id be v happy to follow it and take part if someone else ran it.
As Neal isnt in Metz or Belgrade, even if he wins Paris he cant catch Henry now.
So Henry is guaranteed top spot.
In fact, mathematically:
mens singles - Jack is guaranteed now
mens doubles - Henry is guaranteed
womens singles - Katie is guaranteed
womens doubles - Liv is guaranteed
All the wheelchair categories are guaranteed, Alfie (mens), Lucy (womens), Andy (quad).
The girls remains effectively certain, ie Mika, and the boys looks like Charlie but I guess is open still between him and Oli
despite Hannah playing Merida and Plantation, she is defending too many points and is too far behind for any chance of catching Mika, so Mika ends junior girls number one. But most people knew that, anyway!
So just between Charlie and Oli for the boys. Oli is over 400 points behind so will need to go some to catch Charlie, and his Merida performance didnt help matters, but still Bradenton and Plantation to come and he mathematically seems to have a chance
November 2024 - Sunday 1st December (ie end of week 48) - 4 week period (vote 1 Dec to 3 Dec) - note, if weather delays finishes and Brits are still in play, I will delay the vote until the British player is out or the event completed ( I am looking at you, Dominican Republic!)
Rankings cut off to determine number ones qualifying for POS vote - as becomes confirmed, but Final Cut off 16 Dec (only boys singles to be determined)
December 2024 - Sunday 29th December (ie end of week 52) - a 4 week period (Vote 29 Dec to 31 Dec)
Player of the Season votes will then run:
Wild card nominations - nominations will open from evening 3rd December (or when the November PoM vote is complete if that is delayed) and close Tuesday 31st December (ie when December PoM vote closes) - note, there will be a maximum of 20 nominations accepted, so if we reach that number the nominations will close. If any wild card nominations subsequently qualify through December PoM, for example, I will take them out of the wild card vote (as they won't need a wildcard!)
Wild Card Vote - Wednesday 1st January to Friday 3rd January
PoS Round One - Saturday 4th January to Monday 6th January
PoS Semifinals - Tuesday 7th January to Thursday 9th January
PoS Final - Friday 10th January to Sunday 12th January
We have 24 players qualified; with Dec PoM qualifiers and wildcards, we will land on 28 players (same as previous years, so plan come together well!)
The 28 will be split into 4 groups of 7.
The top 3 in each group plus ties (no tie break votes) will form into 2 groups of 6+ for the semis
The top 2 plus ties in each semi group will go into a final of 4+ players.
Last year we had two of the initial round 1 groups with ties, but none of the semis groups. This years PoM votes have been high on ties though, so that is not necessarily indicative!
An updated view of the remaining PoM/PoS calendar with just December to complete!
December PoM 2024 - Sunday 29th December (ie end of week 52) - a 4 week period (Vote 29 Dec to 31 Dec)
Player of the Season votes will then run:
Wild card nominations - nominations will close December 31st with a maximum of 20 nominations
Wild Card Vote - Wednesday 1st January to Friday 3rd January
PoS Round One - Saturday 4th January to Monday 6th January
PoS Semifinals - Tuesday 7th January to Thursday 9th January
PoS Final - Friday 10th January to Sunday 12th January
just a reminder on the schedule for the votes in a few weeks time - its a gradual ratchet up! Last year I was doing them about now, until I messed up on Hannahs situation and where her Orange Bowl win played i!
As a quick one - in terms of December PoM and PoM generally; players who dont get votes , as in one single vote, wont progress to the next round or take a runners up spot in the POM vote.
Only players with votes will progress - if one player gets all the votes ie 100 percent in December PoM for example, (and its never happened before!) then the other players are unplaced and cant progress to PoS qualification.
As of now, 45 players are in with a chance - however small - of being player of the season:
24 are qualified for the POS vote
17 are nominated for a potential wild card
7 are into December POM vote - but 3 of them are also in the wildcard vote, leaving 4
24 + 17 + 4 =45
Some are no hopers, but many have a decent chance. All coming soon!
