A simplified view of the remaining PoM and PoS votes / calendar
October 2024 - Sunday 3rd November (ie end of week 44) - 5 week period (vote 3 Nov - 5 Nov)
November 2024 - Sunday 1st December (ie end of week 48) - 4 week period (vote 1 Dec to 3 Dec)
Rankings cut off to determine number ones qualifying for POS vote - as becomes confirmed, but Final Cut off 16 Dec
December 2024 - Sunday 29th December (ie end of week 52) - a 4 week period (Vote 29 Dec to 31 Dec)
Player of the Season votes will then run:
Wild card nominations - nominations will open from 3rd December (ie when the November PoM vote is complete) and close Tuesday 31st December (ie when December PoM vote closes) - note, there will be a maximum of 20 nominations accepted, so if we reach that number the nominations will close. If any wild card nominations subsequently qualify through December PoM, for example, I will take them out of the wild card vote (as they won't need a wildcard!)
Wild Card Vote - Wednesday 1st January to Friday 3rd January
PoS Round One - Saturday 4th January to Monday 6th January
PoS Semifinals - Tuesday 7th January to Thursday 9th January
PoS Final - Friday 10th January to Sunday 12th January
Ive gone back and forth over when to hold the December vote - before Xmas or at end of the month. Although play in ATP is done in November, and ITF junior and wheelchair events well over before Xmas, there are one or two stragglers. The WTA 125 events carry on until 15th Dec; ITF mens and womens have a couple of far flung events in places like Bali through to 29th Dec. The LTA British Tour has its masters and TS Tour Finals just before Xmas.
I was originally planning to close December down on 22nd Dec and hold POM vote then, but Xmas is a distraction for many and there is no harm letting that extra week through to 29 Dec play out and giving Dec a full 4 week cycle. We sometimes get Brits popping up at those events over Xmas and having the vote 29 Dec allows for a nice build up from the Dec PoM through the wildcard nominations process and vote and then through to the player of the season cycle.

As per past years, October with 48 votes was a strong month. November usually is also, December has always been a quiet one (distractions!) so let's see how the year rolls out
24 players have qualified for the Player of the Season vote- unless we get 2 new players in both November and December (which is possible given they, as months, probably include less top tier play than other months) then we will land short of 28 participants. As such, the wildcard nominations and vote will round the field out to that 28 as we have had the past couple of years. How many wild cards precisely will be determined once December PoM vote is done.
The wildcards process starts after the November PoM vote in early December, and Ill put up a separate thread for that at the right time.
4 wheelchair entrants (again counting Alfie/Gordon as 1)
4 doubles entrants (again counting Alfie/Gordon as 1)
A nicely balanced field. It will help me distribute the players nicely across the groups if it stays this way. My draft groups look very balanced as they stand but Nov and Dec PoM winners will certainly change the groupings around a bit so they are just for me to practice with at this stage.
For those interested, this is the total number of nominations each player has had this season (11 months as it started with Dec 23) - Jake and Sonay lead the way; Heather, Mimi, Millie R. Andy and Oli B are all players with a lot of nominations who haven't managed to crack the top 2 in a PoM vote or get a place in Player of the Season, so far at least.

Interested to see where Nov and Dec go to with PoM nominations and votes - December feels like a month where we will see some lesser known names shine through, maybe juniors will come to the fore.
November still has a decent amount of top action in various Tour Finals and team events, but again some new names may shine through as well.
PoS is looking like it will land most likely on a 28 player field, as per past years, but if lots of new names hit the PoM heights, in Nov and Dec, we may find ourselves with 30 participants in PoS
Remember, the Player of the Season Wild Cards Nominations begin on December 3rd, so keep an eye out!
24 players are already qualified, and others may come in through the November PoM vote, which finishes Dec 2nd.
There will be up to 20 wild card nominations, and the process will be taking place through December.
A separate thread will go up in due course!!

So this is how the wild cards process will work. After the November PoM is finished, Dec 2nd, I will post a thread for the wild card nominations - similar to a normal PoM nominations thread and , indeed, it will run alongside the December PoM nominations process.
There will be a maximum of 20 wild card nominations accepted - nominations will continue until the end of December. If we reach 20, I will accept others as "alternates". Once the December PoM vote has taken place, if any of the wild card nominations have subsequently qualified for Player of the Season through the December PoM vote, I will finalise the list, take out any players who may have qualified in the meantime and add in any alts, so we end up with a max of 20, or fewer if we don't get 20 nominations.
There will be no limit on how many players a single board member can nominate - you can do 20 if you like. BUT, there will be a limit of 1 nomination per day per board member, which gives others a chance of getting in there with a nomination.
The nominations will close December 31st and the vote will take place as soon as possible thereafter.
Once the November and December PoM votes have taken place, we will know how many qualifiers for PoS we have and how many more we need to fill with wild cards, at which point I will confirm that in the voting poll that goes up. I expect the number of wild cards will be 1 or 2, but it could be more, depends on where we land the next month or so. We currently have 24 players in PoS - the PoS vote will ideally have 28 players in it, so the wild cards will round that number out. If Nov/Dec PoM votes land us with 4 completely new names to qualify for PoS, then I will expand the PoS field to 30 and fill it with a couple of wild cards from there. All will become clear and confirmed once the Dec PoM vote has happened.
Meanwhile, the Wild Card nomination thread will be posted December 3rd, which is only a couple of weeks away!
Although we aren't into December month, I was musing earlier that the month could be a weaker month than many - less events, all will be at junior or ITF level, the ITF events are largely M/W15 level (not all) and fritter out post the 16th to the extent we may not have many BRits playing.
Which doesn't impact on us doing a December PoM poll etc as all months are months ie equal in terms of the calendar.
What it may mean is we have a slightly lower bar than usual - someone reaching the last 4 of an event at M15 may turn out to be the highlight of the month!! So keep this in mind when nominating - player of the month is relative to the other achievements in that month, not to other months.
So that semifinal could turn out to be a real high that needs celebrating!!
We could also end up with a lot less nominations, of course, as people keep the bar as high and a lot of us will be (quite rightly) distracted with other things in December!
Looking back at last season, a few changes to the Player of the Season voting this year:
Wild cards - the wild card nominations will be limited to 20 nominees (last year it was unlimited). If there is just one wild card place, we will have one big group to vote from; if there is more than one place to be allocated, I will split the votes down accordingly, so that each groups winner will go through to PoS. If there are ties, there will be a tie break as I will leave it as just one player max per group
PoS vote - not sure yet whether, post wild cards being added, we will land on 28 or 30 players taking part in PoS. Whichever it is, there will be 3 rounds of voting, QF's, Semis and a final. Structure to be determined. In PoS , last year I had tie breaks for groups where there were ties on players going through. I found this awkward and not really fair (unlike the wild cards votes which are by their nature a little bit "all over the place"). So this year, the main PoS will no tie break votes and will mean that "plus ties" will go through to the next round. It may mean uneven groups at semis or final stages, but that is a minor thing compared to wanting to be fair. The tie break votes cause me lots of headaches as well, they are helter skelter really, so I am happy to ditch them in the main PoS vote
