starts Saturday night! Dont miss it!

When I put up the polls, youll see Ive just put the bare stats for each player - ranking change , win loss record, titles won, player of the month achievements. It leaves out a lot of colour - eg Im not mentioning anything beyond the stats; and thats all taken from ITF site- eg college records arent included, reaching a Wimbledon semi, big wins.

Reasons - I want people to do their own research and judgement; its not for me to sway you strongly but my biases

I dont know all the players well, so dont want to miss any of the colour out.
And, finally, it takes too much of my time.

So when voting, please do your own research; and if and when you vote, please add in the colour for your selected player to help others see why you voted for them and why they should.

Therell be no spoon feeding - your vote is your vote!

And it should be fun to see how it all plays out - it feels like the most open one we have in the 5th year of its existence!

Past winners of Player of the Season:

2020 - Joe Salisbury
2021 - Emma Raducanu
2022 - Jack Draper
2023 - Joe Salisbury

Joe hasnt qualified this year, will Emma or Jack take a second title, or will there be a new PoS crowned!?

Yes, looks very open from what I see as half a dozen potential winners.

But let's indeed see how it all plays out.

The 28 players are split into 4 groups of 7; the groups each comprise 3 or 4 men and 3 or 4 women (3 groups will be 3 M/4W, 1 group 4M/3W). Round one is also sort of seeded based on winning PoM titles etc and also Ive largely kept the singles, doubles, wheelchair, juniors and ATP/WTA/ITF players nicely spread across the groups. some wont like the odd mix of players but I cant please everyone and, tbh, it doesnt matter - ultimately its about choosing the one single player of the year.

The first round lasts Sat to Mon, 48 hours; top 3 plus ties get through

The semis are 2 groups of 6, plus any ties who get through from round one. Runs Tuesday to Thurs.

FINAL is Fri to Sun and is top 2 from each semi, plus any ties who get through.

Semi groups will be assigned from round one and will be Semi 1 - A1, D1, B2, C2, A3, D3 and Semi 2 - B1, C1, A2, D2, B3, C3 - regardless of gender or singles/doubles background etc, just the way the round one groups fall.

Enjoy!

So anyone wanting to work out the semis groups (no spoilers please) can see the mix above. Youll see its landed as 3 men and 3 women in each group, which is good. Id say one group is a heavierweight group than the other, but its the way the cookie crumbled.

More than the first round, i do expect these to be very competitive, partly as only 2 from 6 progress to the final.

Semis groups will be posted tomorrow evening.

Personally I wouldn't particularly see one of the groups aa much more heavyweight than the other.

And of the at most 6 I saw from the beginning as realistic winners, 3 will be in each group, plus of the 4 I would ideally like to see in the final 2 will be in each group.

Good stuff - they are both going to be good groups, thats for sure.

How competitive I am not sure, but we will see.

I certainly won't be voting early

Not all 6 for sure, but there is enough in each group to make the chase for the top 2 interesting, I would think. whether it be 3 or 4 in each group, thats enough and I dont see any 50 percent of vote winners being likely. But lets see, as we all have different tastes and things could pan out contrary to expectations!

In truth  I think one of the SF groups will be a bit of a walk for the top 2, not so sure about the other ( there I see one for sure plus a possible battle between two for the second  spot ).

I do realise that you hope not, but just saying ...

Not to sure- I see 3 v strong candidates in each group, and some outliers that will take votes off some of the favourites. Might well be wrong but I think both will end up closer than the first round, although Group C was close - and I was expecting a tie until someone voted very late on (Im guessing Johnny Aitch is our regular last second voter, although hes not raised his hand!)

My wife tells me that also!

out of interest, can folks see voting before they vote? I cant so assume others also cant? Ibe decided not to say exact votes this time round, just scores as opposed to names, to avoid giving too much away.

I do like a bit of a competition but it will be what it will be. More than anything I like a lot of votes and getting 55 in round one was a big tick in that box! Id love to see 60 plus for the semis or more likely the final, as that is over a weekend and three weekend evenings.

On a different topic, I hadnt thought through the traffic jam of polls Id created by moving PoS from December last time to January. January is the right place for it, but the AO prediction poll and Jan player of the month all collide in the same time period. Which isnt an issue, but I almost lost track!
