Should just about sneak into the top 800 by reaching the final. Would make 30 in the top 800

A win in the final would make him Top 750.  A long way to go but a couple more weeks like this and he could be a 'contender'.

This is Olivers 11th ITF event- 4 of those have been in Britain, 7 overseas. The 7 overseas ones have all been in Monastir! He clearly likes the place, either that or his family have a holiday home there!

I looked it up on Air BnB out of curiosity Jon and you can stay there for £15 a night!

When you look at finances it's a no-brainer. Not sure if this has been posted on this site, but it's an eye-opener:

I know people are aware of the financial situation of players outside of the top 100 but it's interesting to hear it from them!

If anyone struggles with the link, it's tennis players saying how much they've spent this year compared to what they've earned. Katie Dunne, for instance, said she'd spent £10k and earned £7k. Another women player had spent £25k and earned £15k! (around WR316).

Oliver lost the first set but has just taken the second set. Let's hope momentum carries him through!

It seems my fears were groundless - again!  Oliver's the :

Final:  Oliver Tarvet WR 889 defeated Ryotaro Taguchi (JPN) WR 933 by 4-6 6-3 6-1

Converted his second match point.

Super win !

Well done, Oli

His first adult title - according to ITF, he only had one small J5 title as a junior

Presumably he'll be back at college soon (San Diego, I think)

Which seems a good idea - it's obviously suiting him very well !

Normally at these resort tournaments players are forced to stay at the official hotel as that is how they fund the event / make money.

Would beg to differ - although ulterior motives may cloud my judgement wink

Thanks, Wolf. No wonder they all struggle to make any money then! I did wonder how those almost permanent tournament venues like Monastir managed to fund themselves. I imagine they're still a bit cheaper than some of the other tournament venue hotels though and at least if you stay for a few weeks you're not paying travel costs.
