I have to confess that although I know we only have 13 votes in when I post this, I am very surprised to see Evo leading the way. I love Dan's tennis as much as anyone and he is a breath of fresh air to watch. But apart from one strong spell when he won his ATP title, he has had a poor year (not help obviously by the injury at the back end). His ranking has gone backwards and he lost more matches than he won.
Of the 6 candidates here, he would probably be my last choice on this occasion.
But hey. We are all entitled to our opinions. That's what makes things so interesting.
I feel the same about Joe Salisbury. He hasn't really exceeded expectations IMO in the way Billy or Liam Broady have or made a break through like Hannah or Jodie

I think looking back, we have a number of players like Dan, Joe and Neal,
maybe Cam, who won some big titles and had a big high, against some
like Billy, Liam, Jodie, etc who had really great career improvements without that stand out great victory to define their season. I guess it depends how we value these things, and we vote with that in mind.
we also then get into the merits of singles versus doubles, how to juniors stack v seniors, and where do we put wheelchair performances into the mix?!
we all value different things which is why its interesting.
there is one big elephant in the room, but Ill leave that for now - and it is my fault - which I will address it it ends up hanging over us!

There is also the issue of near-ism (is that the correct phrase?). Does it pay to have your big moment near to the time of the vote, as opposed to in January, say? Joe achieved his things towards the end of the season - did this give him more votes than if he had done it in January, in Melbourne? Who knows, again it is just part of the mix!!
With voting well advanced in the SFs, I am predicting a run away victory for Katie B in the final. I always get the feeling that there are more on the board that follow the women's game than the men's game which produces a purely statistical bias in favour of the women when it comes to voting - not complaining here, but just stating it as I see it.
Although Hannah's victory in the Orange Bowl might throw a small spanner in the works, I would imagine that Katie will pick up the majority of votes from those who tend to favour the women's game. On the men's side however, I can see the vote being split fairly evenly between Billy, Liam and Joe, probably removing the chance of any of them being voted the overall winner.
I may be wrong, but time will tell. And if Katie does win, she will be a worthy winner having had an excellent season.
Just wondering if in the future, it's worth having the men and women separate during the year, before selecting a men's Player of the Year and women's Player of the Year. The final vote would then be between those two for the overall winner.

mmm. I am not going to speculate on how the voting will work out. In years gone past the overall winners have been Joe, Emma and then Jack, and I do think it depends on how the players stack up. We had 14 men and 14 women in the votes this season, that was quite even, and 8 men and 4 women at this stage. I think what does happen is that people may have a favourite "gender" (I tend to always vote for men) and if there are a few that are even, it splits their votes.
As for mens and womens votes, I have always been against that personally, I enjoy seeing how it all pans out and over the year, the PoM winners have been 8 to 3 out of the 11 taking place and the last 5 PoM votes have been to men.
So, I am not sure the voting bias is there.
Splitting mens and womens also makes my life harder, to be honest!
I have a series of 8 questions I want to pose to the board about the future approach and structure of PoM/PoS/PoY and I will add the male / female question to the list to see what people think.

My observation is that women players tend to get the votes earlier on and the men players will then play catch up!
