Boys & Girls: J100, Loughborough, GB - hard (Week 49)

The quali draws are out

Lots of empty slots, in both girls and boys......no

In the boys, the top two Q seeds are Spanish and Irish

Henry Jefferson should be top seed in the MD, hoping to do better than last week

In the girls, Zara Burns (IRE) is top Q seed.

Hannah Read, who is nearly top-100, should be the top seed in the MD

13 year-old Rosie Cho and 14 year-old Edie Griffiths have probably got MD wildcards

Some excellent QR2 wins today as seeds tumble ....

Sophya Devas def. the top Q seed from Ireland, 6-1 6-0

She'll now play Daisy Wootton, who beat Serena Manca (q5)

Aimee Knowles def. the second Q seed, Sarah Copley, 6-2 6-3

She'll now play Mia Wainwright who defeated Sirena Waas (q7) in a MTB

Young Alice Wilson-Marsh def. the Q third seed, Macy Denney-Richards, 0 & 1

And will now play the Italian Q6 seed (the only seed to win in the girls so far today)

Boys

The top half has seen a bit of a collapse with 6 GB v non-GB matches and only 2 wins

The bottom half had five and we won three, which is better

The 5th and 6th seeds lost, but all the top ones got through.

Just to add to the round-up:

Top seed, Hannah Read, came through in three sets.

2008-born Christina Christodoulou also won

Rosie Cho lost to Aimee Knowles

Brooke Black beat Erin Pearce

Nice win for Edie Griffiths over a player nearly 1000 places higher

Also, Flora and Allegra won

Following the recent discussions CD and others had around talent spotting, the BBC podcasts have this that has just been released - it is generic but might be of interest in relation to this topic

www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/m001ry9n

Looks at cycling, football and cricket. No tennis

Thanks for this link.  Interesting.  I'm not surprised there's no mention of tennis.  To succeed in tennis, a child has to have a lot of money behind them.  The other sports don't.  With money, almost anything is possible.
