Boys & Girls: J300 Bradenton, USA, clay (Week 48)

The penultimate major event on the junior ITF calendar also has under 12, under 14 and under 16 events with limited British interest. In the under 18 event Charlie Robertson and Viktor Frydrych are seeded, but they have had mixed fortune today: Viktor winning and Charlie losing 3 setters.  Gabia Paskauskas has to take on one of the Czech starlets tomorrow (the other girls play later today)

Boys R1 (L64)

(13) Viktor Frydrych  d. Maximo Zeitune (ARG) 6-3 4-6 6-1

(WC) Jack Kennedy (USA) d. (14) Charlie Robertson 6-7(4) 6-3 6-3

Girls R1 (L64)

Anna Linn Puls (GER) v Hephzibah Oluwadare

Gabia Paskauskas v (3) Alena Kovackova (CZE)

(15) Monika Stankiewicz (POL) v Mika Stojsavljevic

Just to note that although a wildcard, Charlie's conqueror has a 40-10 w/l record this year so has been flying up the rankings.

In the U12 girls, I see that Hermione Korpanec Davies got a R1 win and then lost in R2

Athina Schlepphorst won her R1 in the U16 girls. R2 yet to come.

I may well have missed them but I can't see any GB boys' names

Its not easy to tell British players in the draw, if they are unfamiliar names.  The only British boy I spotted was Myles Kiely (finalist in the U12 doubles at the Nationals) in the under 12s who lost in round 1 - but there may well be others

Unsurprisingly Gabia found Alena too tough. In doubles Mika+ and Charlie+ have reached round 2 but Viktor+ lost out (Hep+ and Gabia+ still to play)

Girls R1 (L64)

(3) Alena Kovackova (CZE) d. Gabia Paskauskas 6-1 6-3

In the remaining doubles matches from yesterday, Gabia+ lost a heartbreaker - 12-14 in the MTB

But Hep is playing with Gloriana Nahum, the very much heralded player from Benin, and the two won their first dubs match, 6-2 6-3

Viktor squeezed through by the narrowest of margins, but now has to take on Thomas Faurel, who beat him easily two weeks in a row on European clay in August

Boys R2

(13) Viktor Frydrych d. Andrew Delgado (USA) 6-4 3-6 7-6(5)

R3

Thomas Faurel (FRA) v (13) Viktor Frydrych

Charlie Robertson & Charlie Camus won their doubles by a whisker, and are now into the QFs

If they'd have lost they'd have looked like a right pair of Charlies

Hep & Gloriana lost theirs but Mika & Wakana Sonobe won theirs and are also into the QFs

Mika seems to be having a good week but the second seed seems to be a tough one next for her.

The second seed was too tough for Mika and for the third time Thomas Faurel hammered Viktor leaving British interest down to doubles

Boys R3

Thomas Faurel (FRA) d. (13) Viktor Frydrych 6-1 6-0

Girls R3

(2) Iva Jovic (USA) d. Mika Stojsavljevic 6-3 6-1
