unfortunate, but hardly unexpected given the quality of players, that so many Brits have not made it through. Good luck to those still in (both qualifying and the main draw), especially Boggo and Baker, is a final between those two possible? - I can dare to dream-

Mackin played unreal, won first set broke Arthurs twice. Second and third set Arthurs tanked but bullied his service game all the way to TBs. In 3rd set breaker, Mackin has 2 separate match points, both on Arthurs serve--both lost to aces
what do people think of alex draw, delic bt him the only time they played (USOQ) and has a big serve, but maybe alex's better grass game can work and in tha past he has taken out big servers on grass (karlovic and johanasson) but has also lost to others like moodie.

Rusedski and Murray are practising at Surbiton this week. MTF think that one of those two will play the exhibition match at the weekend.
Apparently, during Jamie Delgado's rd2 qualies match, two cats ran onto his court !
I'm going to ring in a sec for latest results from today
Although only one Brit got through to the final qualies round for certain I thought that it was a good day from a British perspective, some really superb performances in an extremely tough qualifying draw - it's like a 100K qualies draw with guys like Carraz and Arthurs having to qualify. When I first saw the qualies draw I thought that only Josh Goodall had a real chance of qualifying.
Lee Childs had some superb wins yesterday beating guys ranked 100-200 places higher so comprehensively was really impressive. I wish I could have seen those matches. I didn't think that he'd get through rd1 as Freddy Nielsen is a massive server with a power game which is ideally suited to grass and fast indoor courts. When I heard that Lee had only dropped 3 games in the entire match I couldn't quite believe it at first ! Scoville Jenkins is a really talented American player who made big strides through the rankings in 2005. He's a superb athlete and has a laser-like backhand, and did well on grass in the juniors, reaching the Wimby semis in 2004. Lee did extremely well to beat Jenkins 2 and 3, he must be serving well.
I felt johnnylad was a little harsh on Auckland. James' game is really well suited to grass but it was always going to be tough for him going straight from slow clay to a fast, low bouncing, skiddy surface. Hopefully he can have a good run in doubles this week and do well in Queens qualies next weekend.
Really disappointed that Colin Fleming lost, he beat Bamford 1 and 3 earlier this year and I was hoping for a similar result. Bamford is very confident right now after his success in Greece, he and Jim May will resume their succesful doubles partnership this year as will Colin and Jamie Murray. Hopefully Colin can get some victories in the doubles this week to get his confidence up, he's quite low at the moment having not won since March.
I think that Carraz's victories of Marray and Bamford were to be expected, he's got a booming forehand and a very tricky serve which even a top quality returner like Andy Murray has struggled to pick in the past. Carraz is a very traditional grass-court player, he serve-volleys a lot. Bamford did well to win a set but after that it looks like he got outclassed. Jonny Marray's always done well at Queens, Nottingham and Wimby but for some reason he's always struggled on the grass at Surbiton
Fantastic performances from mackin yesterday. From the guy at mtf, it seems like he played out of his skin. He must be really frustrated at not being able to close it out, when the Arthurs serve gets going on grass, there's nothing much you can do, it's like with Karlovic.
Looking ahead to Childs v Niemeyer, I reckon that Lee has a good chance as he's obviously on red-hot form and Niemeyer struggled through rds 1 and 2, coming close to losing against King-Turner in rd1. Niemeyer struggles on grass when he's put under pressure by opponents attacking the net so hopefully Lee can exploit that today.
Delgado probably has the slimmest chance of progressing, he should be able to finish off Simmonds but not sure whether he'll be able to conquer the might Arthurs serve. I would really like to see a player give Arthurs a good thrashing sometime this week, he's beaten 3 Brits in the last few weeks and only Tim Henman [of the British players] has ever beaten him.
Goodall has the best chance, i'd pick him to beat Whitehouse and then I reckon he could outserve Pequery on grass.
I'm hoping for 2/3 to get through today but that may be a little optimistic !
