Boys & Girls: J60, Glasgow, GB - hard (Week 48)

Boys

There's only a 16-entrant quali draw, with 14 GB boys and only two foreign lads

The two wildcards have gone to Alex Winder and Alex English

Henry Jefferson should be the top seed in the main draw - the event is a bit 'below' him really but I guess because it's in Scotland he wants to play, which makes sense

Girls

The two wildcards go to AadyaIyer Chadalawada and Hannah Augustynska, who are both young  Scottish players.

There are three non-GB players in the 16-strong quali draw

It should be a strong field in the main draw - Dani Piani, Hannah Rylatt, Allegra K Davies

Also interesting to watch Hollie Smart, Tegan Bush, Grace Chinwike....

The boys have done a stellar job - both peskies successfully dealt with

Isaac King beat Freddie Sharp who was seeded 3 in qualis

And, in the clash between the two wildcards, Alex English defeated Alex Wilder

But no other real news of note

In the girls, there were three GB qualifiers and one foreign player

Congrats to 14 year-old Amira Afzal who made it through.

14 year-old Isabella Makuch also got in as a LL

In the MD, it kicks off spicy, with top seed Allegra Korpanec Davies drawn against Hollie Smart. Definitely a match to follow.

Tegan Bush is also drawn against Hannah Rylatt which will be interesting.

Grace Chinwike is our second-best ranked 2009-er.
But like Alisha a couple of weeks ago, nearly all her points are from African events with rather lower ranked fields.
Will be curious to see how she does.

Wildcards have gone to Lara Savic, Teddy Prisadnikova, Celine Ricaud and Alice Wilson-Marsh

It's been a bit of a massacre so far for the GB lads

There's been 9 GB v non-GB matches reported so far

We lost 8 out of 9 :::(((

(Well done to Harry Abel, our sole survivor, and let's hope the other results are a bit better......)

The rest of the boys R1 was faintly better

A few more wins over our pseky friends

Congrats to max Carrier who won 7-5 in the third

And Alfie King, and q wildcard qualifier Alex English

But still not a great day, tbh

The girls' results were OK

Best win of the day goes to wildcard Celine Ricaud (whom I've mentioned before as a girl I like) over Brooke Black, seeded five.

And also Teodora Prisadnikova who beat a non-GB girl, as did Alice Wilson-Marsh and Flora Johnson

Hollie Smart posted a good score but Allegra, being top seed, and JWR 200 or so, was just that bit too strong.

Tegan Bush also lost. As did Grace Chinwike which is a shame but not altogether unexpected.

Well, it's chalk and cheese in the boys and girls at Glasgow today

On the basis of always getting the bad news over first....

The boys had a 'mare

Top seed, Henry Jefferson, lost to someone about 500 places lower in the rankings than him

There is no GB player left in the top half of the draw

In the bottom half, well done to Luke Hooper and Max Carrier, 4th and 5th seeds respectively, but they are our two lone hopes left.

The girls was WAY better.....

Sirena Waas beat the 6th seed. Sophie Bekker (born 2008) beat the 8th seed.

And nice wins for Dani P, Flora, Hannah Rylatt, (wc) Teddy Prisadnikova and Allegra

I thought Sirena looked in good form at Liverpool and only just lost to Edie Griffiths(who went deep) so not a surprise.

Yes, but Sirena is 17 and Edie is 14

Boys:

Well done to Max Carrier, age 16, who beat the second seed and makes the semi-finals

He's the only GB lad still standing, as Luke Hooper lost.

He needs another win, though, to get net new points

Girls:

Flora Johnson got a nice win over Dani Piani, 6-3 7-6(3)

Allegra also won against Sirena Waas, and Hannah Rylatt defeated Sophie Bekker

But young Teddy lost to 4th seed from Denmark

Good on the girls, and Max

It's no new points for either girl at present (Allegra has to win to get new points and Hannah has 20-pointers to replace but she has a 36-pointer coming off in early Dec so it'll effectively just replace that one)

It's a far bigger deal for Max as he's that much lower ranked and so it already equals his highest counter, and will replace an 18-pointer. (And will be even bigger if he wins it, of course)

Alfie King lost his doubles semi, leaving Max + and Henry + facing off in the other semi for a place in the final

In the girls doubles, Dani + beat Shaylin and Lilliana and await winner of Flora/Allegra versus Tegan/Chloe in the other semi
