I guess Harriet and Heather for the doubles? Who are the most likely 2 to play singles on clay from these 4?

And Garcia, Burel, Parry and Mladenovic for France.

Will be interesting to see some of the team dynamics here - as I recall there seemed to be a bit of an issue between Katie and Harriet at Nottingham last summer!

They've already played together since, when GB beat Sweden in the BJKC Play-offs in November. It was one incident that I suspect was quashed pretty quickly off court.

It's going to be a tough tie on clay, as none of the GB team have been particularly successful on that surface.

Don't see any reason to think it won't be Katie and Emma.

Thats the strongest team we have but it would have been interesting to see who wouldve missed out if Jodie was available.
Or would they have taken all 5?

They can still pick a fifth player.

Fran the obvious choice, but only if she's fit.

I wouldn't be surprised if Olivia Nicholls got picked either.

As it stands France would be favourites in clay. Youd have to pick Katie and Emma for singles, not because theyre most reliable etc but because they are the two youd hope could pick up a winor two over the 4 singles. Theyve got the talent to surprise. Harriet and Heather then for doubles.

as Harriet and Heather could also play singles and Im not sure youd pick Katie or Emma for doubles, a back up 5th player whos a doubles player makes sense, and Liv would fit the bill on form.

Id be surprised is Harriet is used for singles her game is quite ineffective on clay. Pretty sure it will be Katie and Emma for singles, Harriet and Heather for the doubles they do play together quite well and often

Heather probably has the best record on clay. I think she played thirteen times in the French Open and reached R2 six times but the last time was in 2018. Emma has played the FO once and reached R2. Harriet has played the FO four times reaching R1 once. Katie has played the FO twice and reached Q2 once.

I still think we have a good chance against that team.

LTA
@the_LTA
Fran Jones is called up to represent Great Britain for the very first time!

The Lexus GB Billie Jean King Cup Team is complete

Seems like Fran has got the call

I'm not too pleased but, hey, good luck to her, and the team

Yes, for Fran herself and for squad balance ( and possibly indeed to play ) I would have preferred Olivia Nicholls had been added.

But hey, I hope I am wrong re Fran and it is a good beneficial experience for her.
