Canada don't look that strong, just Fernańdez and possible Andrečscuu

I think they won it last year with that same team, though.

Here are the current rankings for their top players - a few names missing such as Kerber and Andreescu who might make their squads

Germany:-
Tatjana Maria 67
Tamara Korpatsch 77
Laura Siegemund 83 and 6 in doubles

Canada:-
Leylah Fernandez 35 and 28 in doubles
Rebecca Marino 160
Gabriella Dabrowski 4 in doubles

I think that's about as good a draw as we could have hoped for?

Marina Stakusic was Canada's surprise package last year, winning three of four singles playing at No. 2.

She's currently ranked 204, close to her CH of 201 on 15/04 and up from 258 at the start of the year. She's only 19 so may well go higher.

Do we know which of the first round days GB are playing, or when that will be confirmed?

The Billie Jean King Cup Finals have been moved to Malaga alongside the Davis Cup Final 8. Same dates.

I guess it becomes a bit of a testing ground.

Is Malaga a big enough venue to carry 14 ties taking place over a week? Feels like we will have some of the classic late night Spanish finishes a la past Davis Cup events in Madrid etc!?

They'll add a second court. The schedule is unchanged so there's only a crossover two days.

The initial GB team has been announced today. Annie has gone for the expected names - Katie, Emma, Harriet, Heather and Liv. But with three permitted changes before the start there could be changes.

(I thought about starting a new thread, but still a little early)
