Emma's match must have lasted close to three hours which suggests that her match fitness is pretty much back to where it needs to be. That is very encouraging, particularly as she had to fight so hard at the end to stop the French surge.
My partner always jokes that I'm a jinx to Raducanu.
I turned it on when I saw she was 5-2 up in the final set.
At 0-40 and 5-5 I thought it best to turn it off.
Amazing to see that she won nearly every point after I turned it off!
Great stuff! I guess I owe Katie an apology after calling for her to be dropped today, what a turnaround in form!
The French probably regretting resting Garcia now (unless her shoulder wasn't up to it), although after yesterday they no doubt thought Burel could take care of Katie comfortably.
So pleased for Katie and Emma. They've both been through awful times with injuries etc and it's wonderful to see them getting big wins - and on clay! Hope it bodes well for the clay season. Even a few wins will be great for the confidence and the bank balance!

Not sure Emma needs to worry too much about her bank balance.
Seriously though what a terrific win. Emma was so very good for much of yesterday's match. Let's hope she can recover and go again next time out. That was around 5 hours on court in two tough matches both physically and mentally.
But Katie. Just wow. So impressed after the first match. She just bullied Burel off the court. Probably how she needs to play on clay as I don't think she has quite got the hang of the surface but very encouraging signs.
Katie said she tried to play like a clay court player in her match against Parry and it didn't work so she switched back to her normal style of play against Burel and it worked.
