Should have broken there I think. The movement is the issue because she ends up off balance, but when she has time to set up she's got a good hit on it.

*3-3

Yes, she's still a little bambi like, her centre of gravity is a little high, especially when she's on the move before the shot

But she certainly has a plan, and she has a lovely arm on her

Should have held easily there. Eventually holds after saving five break points. She's playing some great tennis, just not really enough points back to back.

Great, hostile, team atmosphere. Fun stuff.

Burel deservedly breaks. Saved a break point in the previous game with an ace and then takes advantage of Katie's very weak second serve on this surface.

4-5*

Burel really paid the price for not being ruthless at the net at 30-15*, great get from Katie for the lob, and takes her second set point. Well done. Great effort.

7-5 *0-0

Great hustle from Katie in this set and the determination to compete well after yesterdays loss is outstanding. Has she got the energy to keep going?

'not being ruthless' is a nice way of saying hitting one of the worst shots you could possibly see at this level no

Great application and lucidity from Katie

It will really sting for Clara - she served for the set ....

Katie's not the greatest on clay.
Lacks variety and her movement could be improved. Just trying to outhit her opponent

Done well to take the set, but this match could go on for a while.

Katie Boulter (GBR) (CH=27 2024) v Clara Burel (FRA) 44 =CH
They have played twice before with Clara winning by retirement in Grenoble in 2020 and Katie winning 5 & 3 at Wimbledon in 2022.

Emma Raducanu 302 (CH=10 2022) v Diane Parry (FRA) 49 =CH

Again, the word I would use is lucid

Katie knows she has to keep the ball really deep, and pacy, or else she'll end up being swished left and right, and then drop shotted, and the match would be over before it had started

She's playing to her strengths

And Clara has that rather closed-face look she gets when things are going right, sort of shuts down

However, she's tenacious (as anyone with her style of game has to be) so allez, Katie

ADD: Or not so tenacious biggrin

So pleased for Katie. What a way to right the wrongs of yesterday. Amazing stuff.
