Ross Connolly continues to gain ranking points in South America
Rd1: R Connolly [GB] bt C Lima [Brz] 7-6[5], 7-6[5]
Congrats to Ross on holding his nerve in the breakers and beating an opponent ranked over 200 places higher at 1149. Ross' big serve will definately have helped him in those tiebreaks. Madeline's description of his game from his matches in the Sunderland Challenger was that he had a very effective sliced serve out wide which brought him numerous aces and service winners.
Rd2: R Connolly v F Martin [Fr][6]
Ross has a very, very tough match next againt 6th seed Fabrice Martin has ranked 647. However, before rd1 of this tournament, Martin had lost his last 3 matches - losing in rd1 of 2 clay-court futures in the USA. Martin's best results in 2006 have been making a quarter-final and a semi in futures in Cuba and also qualifying for the Leon Challenger, beating Jamie Delgado along the way.
However, it's been a good couple of weeks for him, he's gained 2 ranking points which will move him up over 100 places once this satellite finishes. He should also have a good chance of making the masters week [week 4] which offers double points.
Bad luck Ross, I think that the Turbanator thinks that the satellite points system is that same as the futures system where players are awarded 1 point for reaching rd2.
Having reached rd2 in both week 1 and week 2 how many satellite circuit points has Ross gained so far ?
