It's not such a surprise, Swan was playing very conservatively at maybe only 80% of her normal level for much of the 1st round match, and had the MTO in the 3rd set. Better to get right for the tournament next week, than make things worse today. It's not a bad location [Portugal] to be resting, and it seems there's a group of Brits there, with Swan being the senior player.

It seems to me that the British girls are not built to be robust enough.
Dunne, Swan, Banks, Raducanu etc are all very good tennis players but would be even better if they could string together a good run without any issues.
I know that some people blame the physios, but personally I believe this is more one for the fitness coaches.
