I think you're spot on about Anne. She always reminds me of Jeremy Bates (OK, I won't get started on that one ) but it's the same demeanor. The pained face. The ultra serious, tense, uptight look.

Now, Jodie said that each point felt like a million points, she was clearly feeling the weight and 'horror' of what was going on. And she obviously doesn't deal with that very well.

You're probably right, Deucebag, and she needed someone to smile, to tease her about the bad shot, to make her laugh and relax

Equally, she might have needed someone to actually shout at her and snap her to. Tough love, sort of thing.

She might have needed a very methodical, back to basics approach

That's the role of the captain - to know what is needed to get the best out of the player

And that's what was lacking 

   

I totally agree with all this and I commented on Anne's demeanour at the time.  We all know how Jodie's matches can turn after a bad miss or a bad call.  She gets into this downward spiral where she beats herself up and her play goes from bad to worse.  This was a golden opportunity for Anne to show her that she can turn things around which would have been a huge benefit both for this match and for Jodie's career going forward.  Instead, even when Jodie won that game at the start of the second set to break a run of 7 losses, Anne's face just screamed "you're letting me down"  Jodie already knew this and didn't need her captain to rub it in.  I think she needed encouraging - reminding of how well she can play, helping her relax a bit and loosen up.  Instead the pair of them sat stony faced starting into their laps. I was appalled and pretty much knew at the point that match was lost.  Such a missed opportunity in so many ways.

Didn't see much of the match or of Keothavang...not surprised by the comments at all though. She seems the least suited to the job. A good coach doesn't have to be an ex number one player. Bad policy from lta as usual. Sad we lost Judy Murray who probably had enough of it all

 She's there now. We'll see who gets up and leaves at the start of the second I guess.

 

We've dropped two players in best of 5 ties I can remember. Bally was dropped for Laura in Boras as a roll of the dice at 0-2, and Jo was dropped for Bally in Argentina. Both lost in three!

 The BBC is reluctant to show the bench at the moment. But I think they are both coaches.

Easy first set 6-1.

Broke at the start of the second, but hits two doubles to go break point down.

1-1*

She's going to her right hip a lot. Not sure if she's fiddling with her outfit constantly or if we should be concerned.

Looks like it's Harriet. She's not there.

To be honest I woke up this morning feeling a bit sorry for Jodie and thinking she should be given the nod to say we believe in you and you can do this. Taking the tie to go from zero to hero almost. The Swedish #2 has been top 300 but isn't as solid at the back as Persson.

As even if she sticks around the top 100, I don't see on what basis you say 'ok you can go out in this one' now if Harriet gets her ranking back up towards 100 and Emma returns. An away tie against a much higher ranked player she's almost certain to lose? A dead doubles rubber (which is how most start)?

Katie misses a couple of break points. *3-4

 Re Judy Murray as captain the worst performance of Jo Konta's career was her  Fed Cup match in 2015 against Olga Govotsova of Belarus when Judy was captain. Jo lost the first 10 games of the match and won 1 game in the end. Prior to that Jo and Heather had lost singles matches to Turkey.In a Fed Cup tie against Hungary the previous year Jo had lost a tie break at 5-1 up like Jodie this year in Cluj. The major differences were these ties were played abroad  and the Jo Konta who played here bore no resemblance to the Jo Konta who later had a successful career.

Katie from 30-15 to 30-40 with a netted backhand. Didn't move her feet. Silly error from the Swede going long off nothing. Fires the forehand 6metres long and the Swede breaks with a mammoth forehand down the line.

3-5*

The Swede being rewarded for just hanging in.

 I think Claire Curran is on the bench. I see Maia Lumsden and Isabelle Lacey are also there. I think one of the other ladies is the LTA physio.

Evie Williams who coaches at Loughborough is also on the bench

Gosh the Swede was tight from 0-40* serving for it. Katie finally breaks.

30-30 again, but this time Katie nails the swinger out wide and holds to level up.
