This week is a break through week for Ranah. Despite her junior ranking, she has had very little success on the main tour until this week.
Let's hope she can take the title and push on
Great to see Ranah finally getting a breakthrough. Liked her game watching during junior Wimbledon. MYbe the kind of style that will take a few years to click.
What a disappointment. I cant wait for our 14, 15 and 16 year olds to step up. Get so frustrated with results like this 3-0 up and loses it to someone unranked. Im sure some other countries have the same problem but I dont support them just GB. So sometimes it seems we have more than our fair share of let downs. Jodie B being an example yesterday. As for ELG well done cos nobody was expecting that.
Carson is a better player than Ranah, much stronger pedigree and a higher upside to her game (at the moment), I'm actually surprised it was that close. A disappointing end to a great week. If course you never want to lose from a break up in the third but lots of build on.
That's a little harsh on Ranah. Carson has a career high of 468 in 2019, since when she's been at college (top 10 in 2022), had numerous injuries and 4 surgeries. She's unranked because of being at college and spending much of 2023 out after hip surgery earlier in the year.

Ranah is a junior.
The ability to close out a match is a skill that has to be learned
Some are more natural than others
Her opponent has had a lot of experience, and coaching, is exactly that skill
It's one of the problems with the lack of team singles tennis in the uk
European players, and US college players, learn it week in, week out
They have captains coaching them at every changeover with what needs to be done
Girls like Ranah have never had that
It's not surprising that it doesn't happen instantly
