Womens ITF name/ WTA ranking points changes

Thanks Lambda. I hadn't realised that the 2024 rulebook had been published - but it is dated 12/12/23 so very new !

Ok, here's a 'finer point' for Lambda, or for anyone really

Assuming I've read it correctyl (!), the new rankings now have 3 points for a W15 QF place, instead of 2. (Just an example)

Now, for those who were in the QFs in 2023, will their points tally in 2024 continue to show a 2 pointer for that QF place, until it rolls off in 2024?

Or will it automatically get unpgraded to a 3 pointer as of Jan 1?

I'm assuming the first, because I'm assuming that 25ks can't suddenly become 35ks, in the automatic upgrade. So the old is the old, until it runs off, and the new is the new.

But does anyone know if that's right?

The 2023 points earned won't change. As you know, the points in the higher ITF (and even some WTA) categories are going to decrease so will be interesting to see how it all comes out in the wash. It will make it more difficult to defend points, but the same applies to all players.

My guess is that it will be easier for players to move on from 15s but tougher to climb thereafter, and more difficult to break into the Top 100. But if Top 30 players are unable to play down so much there might be more movement in the Top 50. Is going to be fascinating.

Thanks, Lambda, and 9vicman

Appreciate it

Still seems quite a boost at the very low end - to still only need 10 points even though the points for winning a 15k has gone up from 10 to 15

But, yep, I hate the idea of the top-100 being a 'closed shop' sort of affair.
