So, 17 days left and 5 places.

The vote in early December will be a melee. All 15-20 nominations in one vote with the top X players qualifying for PoS - WC numbers to be determined post the Nov PoM vote.

IF in the wild card vote we end with a tie for one or more qualifying positions, we will NOT have a draw and take everyone through - this is a once and for all vote and opportunity. It isnt supposed to be happy land. These players have a last chance saloon opportunity and need to get the votes to play with the big kids in PoS

Seriously, if there is a tie, we will have a tie breaker. That will be a single final vote between those in the tied positions, taking place over a rapid quick period, probably a hour or two straight after the WC vote ends.

So when the vote goes up on Dec 5th, look out for the timings on when it is due to finish. If there is a tie at that finishing time, we will go straight into a tie breaker vote and anyone not around at the time will miss the vote/opportunity!

All designed to make it fun and to have some jeopardy in the process! Of course, we may not (and probably wont) need a tie break vote, so this is all wasted narrative!!

More importantly, still 5 places available at the moment, and nominations need to be in by Midnight Nov 30th.

NOTE - if one or more players in the list qualifies for PoS in the period before Nov 30th, I will take them out of the list. Looking at the list, the only one I can see that happening for is Maia Lumsden at the moment, if she does secure her place before month end (I will make a call as I see schedules for contending players but basically it will be down to Heathers schedule) , I will take her out of this list and open the spot up to another wild card nominee.

If anyone on the list qualifies through the November PoM vote (and there are a few on both lists) then they will simply move into PoS and their spot in the WC will not be replaced, as the Nov PoM vote will take place after WC nominations are closed. So, if you think there is someone on Nov PoM list that you would like to see on the WC list, nominate them for a WC position sooner rather than later!!

Halfway point in the nominations process, a good number of nominations but room for 5 more! Nominations for this close 30 November at midnight!

Anyone can add any player, however frivolous - this is a chance to go slightly off beam if you wish to, you just need to not be scared!!

So, I realised this morning that Neal Skupski isn't guaranteed top spot in the mens doubles rankings. He is into PoS through other means, but it does mean Joe has a chance of qualifying through the doubles spot!

Specifically, if Joe and Rajeev beat Neal and Wes today, go onto take the title unbeaten in Turin, and Neal also loses his final group match on Friday, then Joe will take top spot in the doubles.

If this happens, Joe will be taken out of the wild card nominations list. Neal is safe in PoS as he got a PoM RU spot earlier in the season.

All eyes on Joe.

Wild card nominations - max 20

1. Joe Salisbury - although it hasnt been his best season ever Joe ,with his long time partner Rajeev Ram, managed to achieve the magnificent accolade of winning their third consecutive US Open title. They have also qualified for the ATP Tour Finals and won an ATP 500 title as well. We dont get many slam winners and Joe is one of only two British senior pros this season to achieve that. It would feel wrong to not have a slam winner in the player of the season vote.

2. Jan Choinski - gained over 100 places in the rankings up to a CH 126 winning his second challenger title along the way.

3. Julian Cash - a new career high inside the top 50, 4 titles and numerous finals, including 3 ATP250s (all with different partners), with a particularly successful October. And all that despite the end of a long-term successful partnership mid-season.

4. Max Lendrum - 12 years old. Another Welsh up and coming potential star of the future.Coached by Francesca Lewis at Swansea (Mimis old stamping ground). Max beat the number one seed Frederick Fabricus to take the National U12 title at the Lexus indoor chamionship in Bolton in October - his first national chamionship title. Achieved without dropping a set and followed up by reaching the boys double final in the same event.

5. Viktor Frydrych - 17 years old for winning his first ITF U18 J300 event in Beijing in October this year. Moving nicely up the junior ranking to mid 50s. Another up and coming star from Colwyn Bay in North Wales. As Chris Lewis Tennis Wales noted, from Viktor first practise sessions at Colwyn Bay they knew he had potential.

6. Alfie Hewett and Gordon Reid - Alfie is already qualified individually for Player of the Season but as a pair, Alfie and Gordon are the real deal - winners of Australian, French and Wimbledon slams this year, the are the worlds top pair with 9 titles overall this season - Gordon alongside Joe Salisbury is the only slam winner not in the PoS qualfiers so far, so this gives him a chance to right that wrong as part of this dominating pair. Also won the Wheelchair Masters title to cap a great season as world champions.

7. Emily Appleton - for her dedication and progress up the rankings. Although Emily's schedule is largely dictated by doubles she has managed to improve her singles ranking to 386 on 31 Oct (and a career high 368 a couple of weeks earlier) from 793 on 31 Oct last year. She's also improved her doubles ranking to 139 from 194. She's done this by playing week in week out having played 28 singles events and 34 doubles events during 2023 to date.

8. Katy Dunne - for returning to tennis after facing illness and injury and being very close to giving up. Playing competitive tennis and being open about all the hurdles she and other tennis players have to face

9. Dan Cox - Dan largely goes unheralded and plugs away at the ITF level. But for those of you who remember, hes become our King of Grass - this year he won the most grass court matches of all Brits; but he also did it last year. And deserves credit for that!

10. Danielle Daley - topped the UKPL league standings this season, including winning the UKPL event in week 3. Overall top points scorer on the women's league circuit

11. Louis Bowden - topped the UKPL league standings this season, including winning the UKPL events in weeks 4 and 6. Didn't play Finals week, but had the best league season of all men's players.

12. Maia Lumsden - nominated here just in case Heather manages to pip her for GB#1 in doubles by making up the 90 point difference. Tremendous year, coming from WR219 at the start of the year to WR74, winning 6 titles in the process, as well as reaching the quarter finals at Wimbledon, losing to the now WR1 & 2 pair.

13. Jack Draper - for reaching his first ATP tour final (beating WR 27 and 28 on the way) and climbing back up the rankings after injury troubles and falling to a ranking low of 123 in August.

14 Holly Hutchinson and Madeleine Brooks. Since starting to play together in April they have improved their doubles rankings from a combined 1925 (1073+852) to 573 (286+287) reaching 7 semi-finals and two finals - but still to win their first title

Second half of the wild card nominations pick, 5 spots left - remember it closes 30th Nov.

More spots may become available as well - one or two are in Nov PoM vote and may succeed, a couple of players may get in through other routes to qualify by the end of the vote. At the moment they do, if they do, Ill take them off the list and free up the space.

Somehow I had cut Jamie off the list of nominees! This is the full and correct list. 15 nominations, 5 places left and 14 days left to nominate.

Remember unlimited nominations - and anyone you spot doing well in November can also be someone that needs a possible season long recognition into this wildcard vote as well, so feel free to nominate in both categories - if they dont do well in the November POM vote, they could be left high and dry for player of the season if they arent on this list.

Both Joe and Julian are doing things this week which improve their narrative records before the vote takes place: feel free to update them , anyone at any time. Joe is also in with a chance of coming off the list with his performance in Turin, if it takes him to the title and British number one.

Still 5 places left and 13 days to go to end of November, please feel free to add to this list of nominations at any time !

15. Heather Watson - won WTA 250 title in Poland (July), w/ Yanina Wickmayer, and RU in Nottingham (June) with Harriet. Also, doubles RU in a WTA125 in Mexico, in October, and won an ITF40 in the same month

Heather is the main challenger for a place as the doubles #1 (against Maia) and for the best 3rd/4th place finish record in PoM's (behind Katy Dunne). Maia and Katy are both nominated as wild cards but may well not need them, but there is a chance Heather may get left high and dry so I am going to put her in the wild cards also and at least give her another chance to vie for a place in the PoS vote!

With this, we have 5 nominations left available, although 2 at least could easily be "given back" as players qualify directly (Maia/Katy D/ Heather) or via the Nov PoM vote (Alfie/Gordon, Jack, and maybe more over the next two weeks).
