Week 44 - ITF W25 - Sunderland, Great Britain Hard

Oh no.
I was hoping to come and watch her match on YouTube as I was sure Katie would walk through the rest of this competition-
What is it with British tennis girls and injuries?
Is it the sport science and physios?
Is it the fitness coaches?
Is it the tennis coaches not creating robust enough players?
A mixture of everything?
I hope its something minor and I wish her a speedy return.

Such a shame for Katie. I'm fairly sure she has (had?) a plan to play over the next few weeks in an attempt to get her ranking back up to make AO qualifying. Winning here would have put her back in contention, although would have needed to add further ranking points to make the cut. It looks like a tall order to make the cut now if the injury does not keep her out. But getting fully fit is more important than chasing a short term goal and causing further damage that may result in a longer layoff.

It's such a shame for Katie. The ability and the desire is there. Nae luck

What would you say the cut-off ranking would be for the Australian Open Quallies?

I thought the physio was manipulating her right shoulder during the first MTO, although it was difficult to see as she was the other side of the umpire's chair. Hopefully it is just precautionary and she will only need a short recovery, but it is close to the end of the season and she may not play again this year.

Wouldn't Swan be in contention for BJK cup duty, or later on United Cup, if there's injury to one or more of those players selected, in the run up to those events? I'm inclined to believe that keeping match fit over these couple of months, is as important as chasing ranking points.

Too late for the BJK in a week's time, but I would think she would have been next in line after the four already picked. But Annie might pick a doubles player if one of the four is injured in the next few days.
