Week 44 - ATP Masters 1000 - Paris, France (indoor hard)

Andy & Lloyd would have gotten in as the 4th and 5th alts both did. I guess Andy went home after losing his singles. Julian Cash is 8th alt with Bhambri, he might still have a chance!

I'm guessing Andy never wanted to see another racket ever again after that match against De Minaur...... it'll take a while....

Andy actually served for it at 5-2 & then at 5-4.

Sounds as though he wasn't a very happy bunny!

The story of the match as perceived by Stu Fraser.  Plenty of quotes from Andy himself.

Massive match today for Jamie and Michael Venus, against Gonzalez and Roger-Vasellin. Must win in terms of the Race to Turin, although winning only keeps them in the game. Ideally, a win would come with others above them losing.

Lose and they are out of the running, too far behind for any results next week to make a difference.

Good luck guys.

Jamie is also currently eq 15th in the indiv rankings with Venus. A title this week could take them top 10, so a lot to play for as a team and as individuals

You jinxed them, Jon:

L16:  (7) Santiago González & Edouard Roger-Vasselin (MEX/FRA) CR 23 (12+11) defeated Jamie Murray & Michael Venus (NZL) CR 36 (18+18) by 4 & 3  cry

A bit of a blow given the success they've had. Neal and Wesley to split.

oh, no, that is a real disappointment. Looks like Wes has Mektic lined up as a new partner. So what now for Neal? Lloyd would come to mind, but is Lloyd the same level as Wes or can he be? Merry go round will happen of course - will Joe and Rajeev continue, they got the US Open and obviously great friends, but will Rajeev want to continue the grind - Neal and Joe? Does that work. Neal and Pavic, I think he is free, Harri also, but is he good enough.

Real blow!

Wes was of course with Mektic before, in 2020 they won the tour finals together but Mektic dumped him. Like going back to the ex.

Heliovaara and Pavic have started to play together so that may end up being a pair for 2024.

So Koohlof is back with Mektic, who dumped him to partner Pavic, who dumped Soares who reformed with Murray, who dumped Skupski. And so the doubles merry-go-round continues. I think when on top form, Koolhof is the best doubles player out there, so a shame, but Wimbledon aside, they've not played so well this year.

Interesting though that Cash, Patten, Glasspool, Skupski (and Salisbury?) will all have new partners in 2024.

Would be lovely if we could find a top level all-GB pair who could compete in Davis Cup and the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Indeed - the one Id love to see is neal and Dan but I guess Dan wont go down the doubles route as a permanent pairing , at least not yet.

Harri in his blog announced Pavic is with Arevalo for 2024. leaves Rojer available , but Rojer is 42 now I believe ?

I agree Koolhof is the best out there , just.

id love to see Neal and Dan but it wont happen , yet at least.

I bet Báez & Musetti were pleased!

L16:  Karen Khachanov & Andrey Rublev (***/***) CR 104 (58+46) vs (2) Wesley Koolhof (NED) & Neal Skupski CR 5 (2+3)
