I don't think other regional players are overlooked... but I do think a lot more funding is needed beyond London and the south of England. For example, I'm back in Wales, tennis has never been popular here but it could be. There are next to 0 indoor tennis courts, my nearest would be a 40+ minute walk away. I'd like to see this change, Mingge Xu could potentially be the first Welsh player to actually break through (we have had players like Evan Hoyt / Josh Milton in the past - but it would be great to see).
Just ramblings, but I do think stuff like the NTC could've been better spent with many smaller versions of that put up across the UK. Try to boost participation in club tennis, make it more accessible and then kids are more likely to want to take it up.

R2: KLUGMAN, Hannah (GBR) WC 734 =CH {14yo JCH=14} v GADECKI, Olivia (AUS) (1) 128 (CH=127 2023)
R2: XU, Mingge (GBR) Q 1228 (CH=1033 2023) {16yo JCH=14} v KNUTSON, Gabriela (CZE) (6) 179 (CH=178 2023)
R2: MIYAZAKI, Yuriko Lily (GBR) (4) 191 (CH=154 2023) v APPLETON, Emily (GBR) Q 385 CH=368 2023)
They met in Shrewsbury last week with Lily winning 3 & 2
R2: BROGAN, Anna (GBR) WC 344 (CH=303 2023) v RYSER, Valentina (SUI) Q 370 =CH
Ryser just knocked out the 5th seed and is at a CH so she is clearly on form. It could be a tough match.
R2: BANKS, Amarni (GBR) SE 309 =CH v DART, Harriet (GBR) (2) 144 (CH=84 2022)
They met in Shrewsbury last week with Marni winning 6(3) & 4
Just an observation on Hannah's next opponent. Olivia Gadecki might be the top seed and ranked at 128, but looking at her record this year (from tennis abstract) she appears to be over-ranked and should be more around the 180-200 mark. Her record against top 170 players is poor for someone ranked at 128. In 2023, she has only 1 win against a top 170 player and that was to Bektas (125) in the FQR at the USO and 14 losses. However, she does have a very good record against players in the 170 to 300 range with 25 wins and 5 losses. If Hannah can play like she did against Lily and Oceane I think she has a very good chance of winning this.

Also well done Marni to pick herself up after that final defeat last week in Shrewsbury. However, I think this could be Harriet's title if she wants it. she has had a bad year by her standards and should be up there with Katie B so although my heart is with Mimi as we are a half-Welsh family, my head is with Harriet.
