6-0. Hannah all over the 2nd serve. This could be done quickly if Malaysian doesnt improve.

A Malaysian Estonian is an exotic mix!biggrin

Ha ha, I even went back and corrected the first autocorrect error! What a win though in 54 minute. Caught some of the 1st set and Hannah completely outplayed the Estonian(not trying that one again!)

Harriet Dart coasting against her Turkish opponent. 6-0, 4-1 up after 42 minutes played. There should be an option at ITF level for a coach to throw in the towel.

And it's over. 6-0, 6-1 and 47 minutes played. Point split was 55/21. Cengiz is a top 250 player but was made to look very ordinary by Dart, who could face Amarni Banks once again in the second round.

I think Harriet will be really up for that match and desperate for revenge.  If she plays as positively as she did today she might just stand a chance of winning.  Hope Marni wins today as I think it could be a very interesting match.

Absolutely - all I got the feeling that Elena sort of did it herself in the last two games ....

ADD: sorry, thought you were talking about Hannah's match. Didn't catch Harriet's - very nice clean result - watched a bit of Lily v Freya, which was interesting. And now am tuned into Mika....

CD can I see this tournament is categorised as a coaching event on the ITF website - What does that mean exactly?

I think it means that coaches are allowed to coach during the match

I saw 'coaching trial' and did wonder if it meant you could try out new coaches?

But, seriously, it's coaching that's allowed.

(Not sure quite how often etc)

I've mentioned Hannah Klugman harnessing a 'fear factor' before on this forum or another, but that was in relation to tennis at the junior level. I wonder though if we might see something similar in tournaments like these: If I were a more experienced player I think I would probably dread going up against a prodigy like her.

Even as someone who has only competed in amateur sport, you always feel a bit rubbish losing against an opponent significantly younger than you are, and if you make a bad start to the match, then the eventuality of it happening starts to prey on your mind a bit.

Oh dear. Mika Stojsavljevic did well to recover the break but has just been broken again at 4-4. This could be curtains. At times in this match, Persson hasn't really needed to play particularly well, she's simply benefitted from Mika overhitting once the point extends.

Yes, Mika is rather frustrating at times.
As always, it's rather 'learnt'
But she did well to break back, including hitting one lovely winner, and Persson hitting a double fault
So we're back at 5-5

It happened again. Persson can once again serve for the match at 6-5. You get the impression Persson feels she can just force Mika to hit extra shots and she'll get over the line eventually. She hardly looked concerned by failing to serve out the match the first time she had the chance.

Mika had two points to take it into a TB
But couldn't quite manage it
She lost 3-6 5-7
A fair score, IMO

Yes, Mika played some good stuff but was a bit too sloppy in places.

Oh well, time to watch Xu/Lacy.

Good application and 'problem-solving' from Emily App to take the first set off the well higher ranked player. However, the second set will probably be trickier.....

Marni has the first set too - no sign of the strappings on her thighs but she does keep feeling her lower back a bit.....

Mimi is winning in the all-GB junior match. And fairly so.
