Week 42 - ITF W100 Shrewsbury, Great Britain Hard

Well, that was a surprise, said no one, ever.......

Harriet won 2 & 0, which was exactly as every sane person would have expected

Nice of her not to hog the court for too long

Pretty emphatic win from Harriet, 6-2 6-0. Oh you beat me to it CD. Yes I could barely keep up with the scoreline. Hope Isa doesn't experience a similar trouncing although fearing it a bit given her long lay off and the quality of the opponent - she had Rodionova the number two seed in the first round of her last tournament too cry

Yes, Nix, this will be the interesting match

Who knows.....maybe we'll both be completely wrong and blown away

Isabelle Lacy lost 4-6 1-6

But it was a decent show against the top seed, for someone who's beat out of competition for a while

Good to see you back, Isa

wildcard dubs entries, Orla & Alisha, get a walkover win as Lene (I assume) had to withdraw

Definitely. She didn't shy away from taking the match to her opponent, which is promising for the future.

So the two players who, in the words of commentator Abigail yesterday, are 'the two British players with most injuries ever', are now still playing and into a third set.....

Harriet and Olivia really ought to win this title, but Emily and Isabelle could have something to say about that.
Great result for Maddie and Holly beating the #3 seeds - yet more CH's on the way, and could break into the top 300.
As far as I can see this was only Marni's second doubles ITF (previously a W15 in 2021) - so well done Sam for presumably persuading her to play !

Do you not think Marni and Sam could have a chance ? Sam is as good as anyone in the field at doubles and, like the mens, Marnis clearly a good enough player to bring something to the table.

Relative to Harriet & Olivia and Emily & Isabelle, at this stage in Sam's comeback and more particularly with Marni's lack of doubles experience, I wouldn't think so.

Ok, lets see what transpires! As an aside, Sam is entered into next weeks event with Emily App as partner.

Harriet won't want to be the one that ends Olivia's winning run with British partners. She's won her last 3 doubles tournaments with Jodie, Sam and Heather. Next week it's Freya's turn! I'm wondering if someone's challenged her to how many different Brits can she win consecutive doubles tournaments with?
