Week 42 - ITF W100 Shrewsbury, Great Britain Hard

Well done, Kat Barnes

Convincing play there..... the other girl made some awful errors and Kat was having a lot of problems with her ball toss..... but it was very much her match and she took the first match point with ease

Emma Lene is coming into the net a lot more now, and throwing in some moonballs - she knows she has to try and destabilise Imogen - and she's trying hard to pin it all the time onto Imogen's backhand (keep it away from the forehand which is doing a lot of damage)

Haddad was a break up but it's now back at 3-3

Emma Lene looks a frustrating player to play against lots of slices, top spins, moon balls and drop shots but Imogen is coping well. Break points now 1/16 for Emma L, 3/7 for Imogen.
Imogen 6-3 *4-3

I think she's started playing like that on purpose - she's just played a far more classic attacking point, with deep penetrating shots, and won it nicely - but she was basically losing overall - Imogen's forehands were killing Emma - and her friends have been shouting to her to mess it up a bit

Imogen served for the match
Saved two break points too

And then had a match point

But just bottled her serve - a double fault out of nowhere - she lost her action completely
Pure nerves of the moment
Such a shame
Now 5-5

I think she had a match point earlier on Emma's service but couldn't take it.

Emma was playing that mixture right from the start, she won her first point on Imie's service with a drop shot.

The backhand she put long at 3-3 in the TB was a real shame
The next point was just mad
Now 5-4 to Emma

Imogen gets an enormous bit of luck with a dead net ball to make it 5-5

Emma has a set point and pins it onto Imogen's backhand for 6 or 7 shots and then the minute it goes onto her forehand she loses

And finally Emma wins the second set - which was fair on the tie-break but not necessarily fair on the set :(

So, is this 4 points for Kat Barnes? Which adds to the 1 points she got recently in the 25k?

(Hannah was imperious in her first set, winning it 6-2)

Well, I don't think anyone expected a different result - Hannah was always the favourite for anyone who follows her - but the score rather blind-sided me - 6-2 6-1

Utterly dominant

Hannah K was excellent. Big serve, strong on both sides and doesn't make many unforced errors. It will be a decent player to stop her this week.

Imagen has a decent serve and forehand, but needs to improve on the backhand.

Hep is all over the place against a very poor Ozgen.
