Week 42 - ITF W100 Shrewsbury, Great Britain Hard

The spectators had a feast day today. I watched the Jones, Banks and Klugman matches and they were all very high level often swinging from side to side. High level entertainment!

Just awesome tennis when she needed to

Served her way out of trouble whenever she was in difficulty

Interesting that there are quite a few of the other players watching in the stands - their first time to see Hannah - they've obviously heard a lot about her and wanted to see her play

And having now seen her play they are hoping they avoid her in future draws!

Oh my !

While yes, as mentioned earlier, the Sky Sports initial pick up for their Hannah & Coco discussion was rather obscure - youngest player ever to qualify for an ITF W100 ( many records, particularly at young ages, with differing pathways, can be both obscure and misleading ).

However, Hannah looks in great danger of producing feats that will be unarguably more meaningful ( if still so much can still be volatile at such ages ).

Play these tournaments, keep winning matches and there will be no hiding place. May she then have good people about her as the hype gathers pace and the general attention, both well meant and at times quite likely cretinous.

The age eligibility rule should prevent things getting out of control too soon.

Yes, although she's playing here this week, and then Glasgow next, and then the Junior Team Event the week after, and then doing the US juniors swing? (I hope not.....)

One thing is the media, the other is just the competitions themselves...

Oh dear.  I see Fran has retired.  I hope it is nothing serious.

Poor Fran has retired with a shoulder injury apparently

Marni is off the court at the moment with a MTO.....

They're dropping like flies.....

Frans retirement was the pec injury that has kept her out over the summer.

Yes, they said it had recurred - I've no idea how long they take normally but it's certainly been quite a while - especially if she's now re-torn/re-strained it

Marni looks quite perky though, and playing pretty well, given the ranking difference

Great come back, from a set and a break down, to take the second set

Allez, Marni !

Oh, what a good win

Thrilled for her

The Swiss forum will have been losing their cool bigtime with how Simona was playing at the end of the second and most of the third

But Marni kept hitting really big - she so deserved it
