Dreadful opening service game from Jodie, broken after a df and 3 forehand errors, the last of which looked like it should have been a straightforward winner down the line. Unable to force a single break point as Jana held comfortably throughout the first set. A few Burrage winners, including an inspired lob after a drop shot but far too many shocking mistakes. 3-6

--

Jodie's first ace and a lucky net-cord volley winner as she holds to 15 1-0*

Wasted a bp 2nd serve opportunity in Kolodynska's opening service game in the 2nd set, Jodie's aggressive return clipped the net, allowing Jana to hit a winner. Earlier two deep backhand returns had earned her 15-40, the first bp saved with a decent 1st serve. A good backhand crosscourt winner from Jodie got her back to 40-40, then a strange forehand return winner when Jana surprisingly did an air-shot and an aggressive Burrage forehand crosscourt for the break *2-0

Two dfs yet 2 JK errors and 2 unreturned first serves as Jodie held for 3-0*

Two dfs for Kolodynska, a good return from Jodie and JK's attempted backhand pass wide for the break *4-0

Rubbish service game from Jodie, immediately down 0-40 after a df and a poor b error after a 1st, saved 2 bps with good 1st serves but another careless forehand error long for the break 4-1*

A couple of good points from Jodie, forehand drive volley winner after an aggressive return and a backhand crosscourt winner for the break, assisted by two rubbish backhands into the net from JK. *5-1

Two errors immediately after her serve and a super pass from Jana 30-40, Jodie saved bp with a good wide 1st serve unreturned, backhand drive volley winner after a decent T and an unreturned wide serve for the set 6-1

----

JK df, then abysmal play from Jodie - smash error long, unreturned 2nd, poor forehand error long, punishes a 2nd then a rubbish drop shot into the net 0-1

2 unreturned first serves, a super forehand dtl winner from Jodie and a backhand winner as she holds to 30 1-1

Impressive game from JK, two brilliant backhands after her serve 1-2

Jodie smash winner, should have won point earlier, unret 1st, df 30-15, poor forehand error net after 1st 30-30, JK poor return error net off 2nd, decent wide 1st unreturned 2-2

Jana drop shot into the net 0-15, poor JK f net after 1st 0-30, Jodie punishes a 2nd 0-40, Jodie points out where she believes the serve landed (not sure what the call was) - Jana forehand error net after 1st for the break to love *3-2

JK b ue wide, JK v winner 15-15, poor return error off 2nd 30-15, Jana punishes a 2nd 30-30 Jodie poor backhand error net after 1st 30-40 saved bp with unreturned T 40-40, awful forehand error net after 1st 40-A df to gift the break back 3-3

Jana b error net 0-15, JK volley bounces before the net, Jodie decent forehand pass 0-30, JK smash after 1st 15-30, good play from Jodie finishing with b cc winner 15-40, Jodie aggressive forehand for the break *4-3

Jana poor f error net 15-0 super backhand pass winner from Jana 15-15, Jana attempts huge return off 2nd but lands just long 30-15, df 30-30, Jodie volley winner 40-30, Jana lucky net-cord volley winner 40-40, decent wide 1st unreturned A- Jodie smash winner after good play 5-3

Jodie debates decision - suspect she feels she wasn't ready for the serve (not got sound on so might be wrong) 15-0, Jana poor forehand pass error net 15-15, good backhand from JK, df 30-30, rubbish return error long from Jodie off a 2nd 40-30 JK f winner after first 5-4

awful return error from Jana off a 2nd 15-0, Jodie aggressive backhand crosscourt 30-0, absolutely horrible forehand drive volley error wide, stood at the net, unbelievable 30-15, poor backhand error from Jana, Jana's attempted backhand pass clips the net and falls wide 6-4

--

Jodie did just about enough to get the win over an opponent who was impressive in the opening set but made lots of errors in sets 2 and 3. Kolodynska had 3 aces and 8 unreturned serves in the opening set yet Jodie restricted her to just one ace and 4 unreturned in the rest of the match. 8 Burrage dfs while attempting very few aggressive 2nd serves. Will need to improve to have any chance in the main draw. Somehow she has to stop being so careless.

The kind of match she would have lost last year.

Onwards and upwards.

Qualifiers placed (WTA PDF draw). Jodie gets Tamara Korpatsch WR78. There were worst spots available !
Possible second round match against Ons Jabeur, top seed.
