Week 38 - ATP Challenger 125 - Saint-Tropez, France (hard)

If he can win the title, Liam will have half a chance of remaining in the top 100 even with the big Tel Aviv points due to drop.

Rather more than half a chance.

He's currently live #93 on 657 points. Win the title and he adds a further 50 points which is precisely his net loss next week. So he would again be on 657 points.

And just a total of 15 points ( net 9 ) due off after next week over the rest of the year. So he would be guaranteed to finish the year on at least 648 points.

Things going well enough for Liam so far. He has a double break and leads 4-1.

Liam is about to serve for the first set at 5-4.  Neither player is winning their service games easily.  Are the courts particularly slow in St Tropez?

Great solid play from Liam - defo looks like he belongs well into the top 100 smile

6-4 Liam

Liam takes the first set.  CL played a dreadful first game of the match to lose his serve, that was the main difference.  I expect the 2nd set to be very tight.

Imagine losing to a player outside the top 100.

But yes, a memorable week for Liam. Well done again.

Despite losing losing this final, it has been a  good week fro Liam. Is he still going to travel to Astana?  Will he make the cut? Given that there is only one other tournament in the week, I think he'll probablt have to qualiffy. I hope that Liam we'll be able to share some thoughts with us, if he does travel east he'll have plenty of time to pick up his pen.

Whilst I enjoyed watching the St Tropez tournament, I'd have preferred to have seen thhe action in higher res. The incremental cost for the tournament would have been trivial

Well done to him despite losing the final.
I have followed Liam for years and not everyone can become a Andy Murray or Novak Djokovic.
But Liam has stuck at it, worked his butt off and now is finally rewarded with a place in the top 100.
In today's tennis world top 100 is a massive achievement in my opinion.
Congratulations Liam. Now believe you can go higher.
