Week 37 - WTA250 - Japan Open, Osaka, Japan - Hard

Treated myself to watching the final set and it was really high level from Harriet. Serve was working, very clever tennis, confident at the net, some lovely drop shots. Just executed her game very well.

Did amuse me slightly that in conditions which are very tough, and Linda needed a MTO after 3 games because of the heat making her feel unwell, Harriet was playing in a long sleeved top like it was an indoor bubble in October. I'm sure it might have been to do with the sun or maybe compression benefits but still made me smile.

The girls led 9-6* in the MTB but got a little tight. Frustrating.

Could really have done with the points this week as well. Seem to be struggling in MTB's this season.

Did not expect that result from Harriet after her recent outings.

Harriet led 5-2* but was broken easily when serving for the set, which she eventually lost in the breaker.

6-7(5) *0-0

Loses 7-6(5) 6-2

She'll be disappointed to have let that first set slip, and given how this draw has fallen apart it was a big opportunity this week. But she had a great win in round one and Kalinskaya is obviously on he way back after injuries.

Looks like the made heavy weather closing out both sets but who cares, wins a win! Lovely stuff. Keeping moving forward with Australian Open Direct Entry surely the goal.
