Not good news to come home to after a long day's work.

Let's try and look at the positives still. Liam has still set a new career high ranking and only a whisker away from the top 100. He still has every chance of reaching that milestone. Good for him for keep perservering.

Yes you're quite right. Easy to project my own hopes for Liam onto any criticism. And ultimately his career won't be defined by a career high ranking of say No.99 versus 104. It will be the tournament finals and results at major events like Wimbledon and the Olympics.

These are arguably only numbers, with nothing much between them, but the fact is players are talked about and remembered as top 50, top 100, top 200 etc  ( or brought up by some as never making one of these ). Top 100 is a biggie and I do so hope he can get there this year.

I think what you say about 'career defining' moments is certainly true for the very top players.  But those a bit further down the pecking order are often defined but what CH ranking they achieved. Top 100 is a huge milestone for any player.

If we look back at James Ward, I am sure very few could tell you how many finals he got to or Challengers that he won (without looking it up), but almost everyone that follows GB tennis will know in an instant that he achieved a Top 100 ranking.

Ben Jones has written a blog about his experience at the Cassis Challenger and how challengers in general compares to ITF events. Worth a read.

Watch out for an amazing volley as well.

Damn!    I'm always doing that, given that "I" & "O" are next to each other on the keyboard (not helped by the fact that the symbols have worn off on mine), but I usually spot the mistake in time.     Corrected.

An SC error is such a rarity.  We should frame this one for posterity. wink

Seriously hoping that Marcus/Scott, Liam and Billy et al are traveling en masse for a few weeks and that they all turn up in Alicante at the start of Oct. What a week that would be for me.

Sorry Bob - no sign of any Brits on the initial entry list.  Decent line up though with Paire, Carreno Busta and Fognini
