Interesting discussion about prize money and taxation.
In the US the GB players get taxed 3 times. At source from US government, then at state level and then back in the UK when the declare their earnings...
I have a mate that plays poker in America. It was an interesting discussion but its important to note that at the end of the year you will get it all back - its a cash flow issue for these people, more so for people like Lily. Its why not many of them dont play in the states all the time.
It also differs state to state what you pay over there which makes it worse.

Yes, but there's a double taxation treaty so it's 'only' a cashflow issue, as PaulM says
Really excellent, solid win from Lily. She showed a lot of wisdom on court and made Betova look like the newbie. Takes the ball so early and hits popping shots deep in the court.
Well done! Bencic next and that's a free swinging opportunity.

I don't think UK taxpayers can be double taxed though (I think it's different for US citizens?). So if you've had to pay US taxes, you could claim tax relief on your UK tax form for the tax already paid in the US.
PS Well done Lily!

Yes. You put the US tax already paid down on your UK tax return and it's deducted from your UK tax owed. We have double taxation treaties with most countries. It works A1 fine normally - the only problem is if you're due a rebate coz you've overpaid in total - that's always more difficult.
