I must say I'm finding it really hard to care about this tournament. Emma sort of spoilt us two years ago and now anything less than a British winner is disappointing (not that it seems likely to happen again anytime soon).
Oh dear - as you say, you risk being disappointed for a long while
I would like Sabalenka to lose. I would like Gauff and Muchova and Zheng and Cirstea to do well. (At least that gives me one match where I'll be happy no matter who wins). As long as that happens, all is good

Not likely to be any of our women but if Jack Draper can stay injury free he could come close for the men.

Emma could be back before the end of the year as she is now exercising and training again. How much she is affected by the operations remains to be seen but Vondrousova for example was out for six months and came back to win Wimbledon a few months later, so we can but hope that Emma follows a similar course.
Yes Coco glides through against the misfiring Latvian no doubt en route to a first US Open title. She's in form anyway, having just won in Cincinnati a few weeks ago. Can't believe she's still only 19. She seems to have been around forever.
I like both but Gauff winning the US Open would be HUGE for the WTA. She's an American teenager, she has won titles at 1000 and 500 level this North American swing - and is already an established top 10 player. The press and buzz would do wonders for the women's tour. So I'm rooting for Coco to take it all!
If it is a Gauff-Keys or a Muchova-Vondrousova final it would be the first final between 2 women from the same country since Stephens and Keys met in the 2017 US Open final. Gauff and Muchova are the runners up in the last 2 French championships. Muchova defeated Jo Konta in her very last singles match. Zheng is the only remaining player in the womens singles not to have reached a Grand Slam singles final.
So the SFs are set up as ... (6) Gauff vs (10) Muchova (17) Keys vs (2) Sabalenka
Bakery products handed out in the first set in all 4 QFs and two set wins then completed. The 4 wins being by 0 & 2, 0 & 3, 1 & 4 and again 1 & 4. I think the brutal conditions have had a big part to play in this with some players suffering much more than others ( and apparently Brad Gilbert helping schedule things! )

The semi finalists have all played one Grand Slam final but Sabalenka was the only winner. Keys and Sabalenka met at Wimbledon this year with Sabalenka definitely the stronger.
It would be nice for Madison to win here after what happened in her final against Sloane when she played pretty horribly, but hard to see her beating Sabalenka.
Gauff v Sabalenka could be a pretty good final with a very loud crowd.

Also the men's QFs had only 13 sets in total in the 4 matches and only one TB set.
